Disney shared the minute-long trailer, offering new looks at lead star Rachel Zegler’s titular protagonist and Gal Gadot’s Evil Queen, Snow White’s nefarious stepmother. With the House of Mouse describing the film as a “magical, musical movie event,” the remake’s teaser shows a tense moment between Snow White and the Evil Queen, with Gadot’s character looking menacing as she quips, “Do you dare to disobey me?” while scheming her way around the kingdom. There are also shots of Snow White’s arrival in the Enchanted Forest and her interaction with the seven dwarfs.
The Snow White remake is a modern-day reimagining of 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, regarded as one of the greatest animated films ever and solidifying the title character as the first Disney Princess. The live-action adaptation sees the princess team up with the seven dwarfs to liberate her kingdom from her stepmother’s grasp. The film will also see Snow White and her romantic interest Jonathan (Andrew Burnap), who replaces the original’s Prince Florian.
The first Snow White trailer, released last August, was met with mixed reviews, with criticisms regarding Zegler and the portrayal of the seven dwarfs as some question why the diminutive characters were dropped from the title. Box-office projections for the film have steadily declined, with its opening weekend expected to pull in just over $50 million domestically. The backlash has also reportedly prompted Disney to cancel its U.K. premiere of Snow White, instead doing controlled press events where they plan to limit the questions Zegler’s asked.
Snow White Was Directed by Marc Webb
The Amazing Spider-Man franchise director Marc Webb directed the Snow White remake, whose budget reportedly ranges from $240 million to $270 million. Zegler teased that the adaptation would show more of Snow White’s leadership and be more progressive than its animated predecessor.
The Snow White remake opens in theaters on Mar. 21.
