Simon Cowell admits he isn’t always thrilled by Britain’s Got Talent finalists

Simon Cowell has candidly admitted that he isn’t always thrilled by the finalists on Britain’s Got Talent.

The BGT creator, who has served as a judge on the show since 2007, said on the Capital Breakfast radio show on Wednesday that he “really liked” every finalist on this year’s edition of the talent competition.

However, he then candidly admitted that he hasn’t always been thrilled by the line-up of finalists.

“The thing is, when you do these shows, everyone always says, ‘Yes, it’s the best ever’ and blah, blah, blah. The truth is, you can’t fake it, you know, you either like it or you don’t and I really really liked it this year,” he said.

“There have been years I haven’t liked it. After all the auditions, you sit there and you know who the finalists are you’re like, ‘Oh my God.’ And the winner’s announced and I’m like, (sarcastic voice) ‘Oh, great.’ And then I’m off.”

The music mogul went on to reveal that he has “a new trick” that he employs when he doesn’t have any feedback to give a contestant.

“If I’ve got nothing to say, I just ask them a question. I just go, ‘How do you think that went?’ which means I have nothing to say whatsoever,” he divulged.

The X Factor creator noted that the audition process is “hard” and “relentless” because he and his fellow judges – Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli – have to see a lot of people to find “one good person”.

However, he insisted it is all worth it when they discover someone like Sydnie Christmas, who won the show earlier this month.

Recalling his reaction to her first audition, Simon revealed his heart sank when she announced she would be singing Tomorrow from the musical Annie, which Amanda called “Simon’s worst song” on the show.

“She told me she was going to sing that awful song from Annie, Tomorrow, I’m (like), ‘Oh Christ.’ Then she was brilliant,” he stated.

Simon, 64, appeared on the breakfast show to promote his new boyband search. He is hoping to create the next One Direction.
