Dobby is a British household name after his appearances in the Harry Potter films.
But some people have only realised 14 years after the final movie was released that BAFTA winning actor Toby Jones voiced the beloved house elf.
One user commented on X: ‘Why has Claudia Winkleman just informed me that Dobby was Toby Jones. Literally the bloke who tried to murder Sherlock saying ‘I like to watch it happen’ was Dobby HELP ME.’
The user was referring to Jones’ performance as Culveron Smith the wealthy philanthropist and secret serial killer in the BBC series Sherlock.
But that’s not the only villain Jones, who was appointed an OBE in 2021 has played.
Another user said: ‘Toby Jones is Doby in the Harry Potter movies! DR ZOLA is Dobby! This is the greatest what the s***-moment.’
Another said: ‘Why did I not know Arnim Zola was also Dobby? How amazing is Toby Jones?’
Jones, 58, is perhaps better known for playing the morally ambiguous scientist Dr Zola in the Marvel franchise Captain America.
