Spanish-American singer Victoria Canal, 25, made headlines after she was said to have become ‘inseparable’ from Tom Cruise, 59, following their meeting at Glastonbury festival
Ivor Novello award-winning artist Victoria Canal, 25, turned heads after making a connection with Hollywood heavyweight Tom Cruise, 62, at this year’s Glastonbury. The buzz started when the Spanish-American songstress teamed up with Coldplay for a live rendition of their anthem ‘Paradise’.
The rumour mill went into overdrive following a report from The Sun, with sources saying the twosome have been “inseparable” before adding, “They have been seeing a lot of one another and Victoria is beautiful. It’s all been happening in plain sight.”
Despite the whispers, Victoria took to Instagram to slam any gossip linking her romantically to the Mission Impossible lead, writing: “Let’s just stop this in its tracks – I’m sorry to bum u out but I am not dating the man, albeit a lovely person and artist. Lol never thought I would have to clarify that out loud in my life.”
With a touch of humour, she followed up by saying: “Huge perk: first time I’m Spanish-American singer Victoria Canal and not one-armed pianist whose name remains unmentioned! ! ! ! There’s always a win somewhere, thanks Tom.”
Victoria’s quip references her own journey; she was born with a congenital limb difference known as amniotic band syndrome, which became a source of childhood bullying and shaped her unique identity as a performer.
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, this condition occurs in pregnancy before a baby is born when the inner layer of the placenta, called the amnion, is damaged, which leads to strands of tissue called amniotic bands forming and wrap around the baby’s limbs, restricting blood flow.
Victoria shared in a candid interview with The Times that she was targeted at school, seen as “the least attractive, the least popular”, until discovering solace in playing piano with her grandmother, a church musician.
She confided to the news outlet: “Piano gave me power. I went from being the one-armed kid, to the kid who was going to be a famous singer. That felt good.
Recounting her school days, Victoria said: “But middle-school was brutal, so I spent a lot of lunches in the practice room, totally avoiding people my own age. I wasn’t having a great time.”
