Black Mirror just returned for a seventh season on Netflix after a two-year hiatus. Fans of the dystopian tech show are used to waiting for more. Since the series premiered in 2011, there have always been long gaps in between renewals and new seasons. So will there be a season 8?
Here’s what we know so far.
Has Black Mirror been renewed for season 8?
Not yet. Season 7 was originally ordered in November 2023, which is six months after season 6 premiered. If there are plans for more seasons, it may be some time before we know about it, if the streaming service continues the same pattern. The show, however, has always been a hit for Netflix and they have never put pressure on the showrunners to churn out new episodes, meaning the delay is normal.
Who will be in season 8 of Black Mirror?
Every season brings in an all-new cast, which has become part of the appeal for the show, with stunt appearance by stars like Miley Cyrus, Jon Hamm, Anthony Mackie, and many more. Occasionally, season have “sequels” to former episodes, which allows old cast to return.
What will season 8 of Black Mirror be about?
The usual themes explored by the show include the relationship between humanity and technology, both the dark side of those relationships as well as the possibilities. Despite its reputation as a show about dystopia, there are always some episodes about how people triumph in conjunction with tech, like in season 3’s famous “San Junipero.” In that iconic episode, two women find love in what is essentially the after-life with the help of some fantasy technology.
Is Black Mirror season 8 in production?
No. Until the show is officially renewed, production will not be slated to begin.
