It’s time to prepare for another winter, spring, summer and fall.

That’s right, folks: following its huge success, Tina Fey’s new Netflix comedy The Four Seasons has been renewed for a second season

Inspired by the Alan Alda film of the same name, the first season follows three couples and long-time friends they take trips together over the course of one year, all of which are plunged into chaos by the sudden divorce of one of the three couples.

Nick (Steve Carell) absolutely stuns Anne (Kerri Kenney) with the news that he wants to separate, which provokes the other members of the clique to assess and scrutinise their own long-term marriages.

Following the shocking and tragic twist ending, which is set to alter the group’s dynamic forever, fans will be thrilled that the show has been renewed for another season.

The Four Seasons Netflix season 2 release date speculation: When could it come out?

The Four Seasons has been renewed for a second season on Netflix, with the decision being announced a mere two weeks after the first episodes dropped to huge ratings.

That said, no release date or window has been announced for the project just yet, so it’s unclear how long we’ll be waiting to discover what the next chapter has in store.

Given that the show is a relatively small-scale character drama, its production cycle could potentially turn around quite quickly, but factors like the availability of The Four Seasons’ cast and the scouting of locations should be taken into account.

With that in mind, we’d predict that The Four Seasons season 2 could arrive within 12-18 months, which would place it in summer or autumn 2026 – but that’s just an estimate for the time being.

Showrunners Fey, Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield shared a joint statement at the time of the season 2 renewal (via The Hollywood Reporter), which read: “We are so grateful that audiences worldwide share our love of cozy sweaters, drinks by the ocean, and picking fights in a hot tub. See you on our next vacation together!”

Prior to the show’s formal renewal, co-creator Fisher had said that she and her collaborators already had “ideas” for future stories, having converted the show from a closed-ended miniseries to a continuing drama during production.

Co-creator and star Fey explained (via The Hollywood Reporter): “I think we were encouraged to stay open to [season 2], as well. It is so human in its scale, and I think humans are going to be around for… at least 15 more years.”

Who in The Four Seasons cast could return for season 2?

You can expect most of The Four Seasons cast to reprise their roles in season 2, including Tina Fey and Will Forte as lead couple Kate and Jack, who weathered some marital turmoil in the first chapter.

Kerri Kenney is also likely to reprise her role as divorced (and recently widowed) Anne, with Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani as her loyal friends Danny and Claude, who are also married.

The main cast of The Four Seasons also includes Erika Henningsen as the younger girlfriend of Nick (Steve Carell), who he met shortly after leaving Anne shocked by his request for a divorce.

Comedy icon Carell would be the sole absence as his character was shockingly killed off at the end of season 1’s penultimate episode, with co-creator Fey explaining the decision in an interview with TV Insider.

“We wanted something to happen that was human-scale, but also meaningful,” she began. “We’re getting to an age where that happens. If someone our age dies… It’s sad, but not that shocking.

“So we decided, as painful as it was, that we would let that happen and see what that did to the other characters.”

What could The Four Seasons season 2 be about?

According to past comments by the co-creators, The Four Seasons season 2 will return to the same friendship group as they deal with new challenges – including moving on after Nick’s tragic death.

Co-creator Lang Fisher rejected the suggestion that the show could introduce a different group in the style of The White Lotus, telling The Hollywood Reporter: “I don’t think we would do it ever as an anthology.”

She added: “I think you want to see these particular characters.”

Fellow writer Tracey Wigfield concurred, revealing that Erika Henningsen’s Ginny would also remain a part of the show despite the death of Nick, who was her initial entry-point into the group (comprised of friends two decades her senior), and hinting that the new season would explore Ginny’s pregnancy.

She explained: “If we did another season, we would want the same group of friends, and we’d want Ginny to really be tied in there because she and Anne are going to have children who are siblings. And it just gives us a lot to play with in their relationship.”
