Four Seasons Season 2 Trailer Officially Revealed and the Ending Has Everyone Talking About It

Everyone at a funeral in The Four Seasons

The first season of Netflix’s The Four Seasons, starring Tina Fey, was quickly renewed for a second season on the streamer. The show was a hit for Netflix and, after its premiere, was No. 1 on Netflix’s English TV Shows list with 24.4 million views. The show, which follows the stories of three couples who are longtime friends after their friend group gets a wrench thrown in it when one of the couples decides to split up, has a 77% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Now, its creator, Tina Fey, is opening up about “starting from scratch” with the second season, per The Hollywood Reporter. In a plot twist, Nick, played by The Office’s Steve Carell, dies in a car crash in the penultimate episode of the first season. Carell was part of the couple who split as he was previously married to Anne, played by Reno 911’s Kerri Kenney-Silver. Carell’s Nick was also dating Ginny (Erika Henningsen), a much younger woman.

Four Seasons is Inspired by an 1980s Rom Com

Fey co-created The Four Seasons, based on the 1981 Alan Alda-directed romantic comedy movie, with Tracey Wigfield and Lang Fisher. Wigfield also worked with Fey on 30 Rock as a producer, and Fisher wrote one episode of the NBC sitcom, per IMDb.

With Season 2 getting the green light from Netflix, Fey talked about heading back to the writers’ room, saying the team has already begun writing Season 2. “It’s been really nice, we have the exact same writing staff and it’s already been really interesting for us to come together and share experiences, not just about the previous season, but also our own lives,” Fey said.

“The writers have been very generous — a lot of what you saw in Season 1, a lot is obviously from the movie, but a lot also came from all of our lives.” Now, without the movie as a guide like it was in Season 1, Fey said, “We are kind of starting from scratch.” The Four Seasons, at least for the first season, reunited Fey with Carell, with whom she starred in the 2011 comedy film Date Night. The Four Seasons also stars Will Forte, Marco Calvani, and Colman Domingo.

Fey’s 30 Rock Replacement Update

Fey is also creating a new 30 Rock replacement show on NBC that is set to star Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe and 30 Rock’s Tracy Morgan. This month, per Deadline, NBC officially picked up the single-camera comedy series’ pilot, and it will go to series. The show also got a title: The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. The first season is expected to have 10 episodes and will likely be a midseason launch for NBC.

The new comedy series from Fey and 30 Rock co-showrunner Robert Carlock and writer Sam Means, will star Morgan as a former football player in the titular role. Now disgraced, Morgan’s Reggie Dinkins is on a quest to reboot his image in a better light. Radcliffe will star as Arthur Tobin. Other cast members include Erika Alexander (Get Out) as Monica, Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live) as Gator, Precious Way (Queens) as Brina, and Jalyn Hall (All American) as Carmelo.

Season 1 of The Four Seasons is streaming on Netflix. Season 2 is currently in development.
