The pop icon, and voice of Smurfette, returns with her first single since 2022
Rihanna is finally back with a new song. And, just like the last time she released new music, in 2022, it’s for a movie. Below, watch the video for Rihanna’s new Smurfs song, “Friend of Mine,” which features a brief appearance from the pop icon herself brandishing a flower as an umbrella.
Rihanna voices Smurfette in the new Smurfs movie. The film will be released on Friday, July 18. See Rihanna’s character with James Corden’s Smurfs character, No Name, in the photo below.
“Friend of Mine”—co-produced by Fallen, Jon Bellion, and Pete Nappi—is the second preview of the Smurfs soundtrack, following Desi Trill, DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania, and Subhi’s “Higher Love.” The full soundtrack is out on Friday, June 13.
“Friend of Mine” also Rihanna’s first single since “Lift Me Up,” which she made for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She was nominated for Best Original Song at the 2023 Academy Awards, for “Lift Me Up,” and performed it at the Hollywood ceremony.
Rihanna has not released an album since Anti. She has, however, been growing her family, as she is pregnant with her third child with A$AP Rocky.
