Ginny & Georgia season 3’s final episodes came with a massive twist, but the whole thing feels far more tragic when remembering one key detail. This installment of the Netflix series kicked off just after Georgia’s arrest for Tom Fuller’s murder, and the rest of the season revolved around her grueling trial. It really seemed for a moment that the Mayoress Murderess would go to prison. What’s more, audiences were confronted with the reality that Georgia likely deserved this fate. However, at the last minute, Austin came in and saved the day.

We ultimately learn at the end of Ginny & Georgia season 3 that Georgia convinced Austin to claim that his father, Gil, had been the one to murder Tom Fuller. Austin had witnessed Georgia’s crime, so he knew tragically well what had really happened. However, when Ginny told her brother that Gil had harmed her, he got on board to put his father in prison instead. Austin meekly took the stand and told a very convincing lie, and though everyone celebrated Georgia’s freedom, her son is likely never to be the same. It’s horrible, but Ginny & Georgia inadvertently watered the situation down.

There’s no doubt that Austin pinning a murder that he knows his mother committed on his father is tragic and disturbing. Seeing him cry on his bed, hugging the jersey Gil had given him, was absolutely heartbreaking. However, the situation is all the more tragic when remembering that Austin’s character is much younger than he appeared in Ginny & Georgia season 3. All three seasons of this installment are set across a single school year, so only about nine months. Austin started the series as a nine-year-old, and he’s the same age at the end. However, the actor who plays him has grown up.

Ginny & Georgia season 1 was released four years ago in 2021, when actor Diesel La Torraca was 10 years old. He would have been about nine during filming, which means the actor matched the age of his character. Now, in 2025, La Torraca is a teenager, having turned 14 in March. It’s somewhat comical that he’s still playing a nine-year-old in Ginny & Georgia, but it couldn’t be helped. Still, the scene during which Austin names his dad a murderer rather than his mom would have been so much more impactful if the character didn’t look so much older.

As tragic as Austin’s big season 3 moment was, imagining that court scene being played by the nine-year-old La Torraca makes it so much worse. It would have been far more evident that this was only a little boy who had been forced into an impossible situation. Capping it off with a tiny Austin yelling at Ginny to leave his room so he can get back to holding his dad’s jersey to his face would have made it almost too much to bear—but it’s exactly what the scene should have been.

Georgia Is Even More Awful Here Than It Seems

It was much easier to root for Georgia before Ginny & Georgia season 3, but this installment really drove home the fact that this woman is a problem. She isn’t an evil monster, but she is an entirely unfit mother whose toxic choices continue to impact her children. We see this with Ginny in Season 3, who, after trying for so long to be nothing like her mother, takes a turn to the dark side in these episodes. Now, it’s Austin’s turn. He’s so much younger than Ginny, but he is already being expected to lie for and protect Georgia.

When Georgia allowed Austin to lie for her and take on the weight of sending his father to jail, it should have been perfectly evident, once and for all, that she is a terrible mother. However, the fact that La Torraca is closer in age to Ginny’s character than Austin’s somewhat waters this down. It’s easy to subconsciously think of him as a more autonomous figure. Georgia would still have been wrong to allow a teenager to protect her, but it’s not quite as alarming as if Austin had looked as young as he did in Ginny & Georgia season 1. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t get that scene as it should have been.
