My Life With The Walter Boys Season 2 ending flips everything upside down — and the setup for Season 3 promises even bigger heartbreak, betrayals, and shocking choices that will change Jackie’s world forever

Nikki Rodriguez as Jackie Howard in My Life With the Walter Boys season 2Season 2 of My Life With the Walter Boys included plenty of dramatic (and romantic) twists and turns, as Jackie Howard’s return to the Walter family ranch brought a lot of unresolved feelings to the surface. This season was about more than just the show’s central love triangle between Jackie (Nikki Rodriguez), Alex (Ashby Gentry), and Cole (Noah LaLonde), however.

The writers attempted to give the entire Silver Falls ensemble their time in the spotlight, allowing other characters a chance to grow and explore their own storylines. This included a new, unexpected romance between self-proclaimed nerd Kiley (Mya Lowe) and jock Dylan (Kolton Stewart), a second love triangle involving the young and impressionable Nathan (Corey Fogelmanis), and the adults’ struggle with the ranch’s future as a glamorous tourist business.

Everything comes to a head in the My Life With the Walter Boys season 2 finale, setting up the show’s already confirmed third season. Jackie is forced to reveal her true feelings, Alex and Cole take solid steps towards their future, and the Walter family faces yet another devastating tragedy.

While both Alex and Cole are still hung up on Jackie in season 2, it doesn’t stop them from pursuing their dreams. Alex earns a coveted sponsorship as a bronc rider, thanks to his new tutor, Blake (Natalie Sharp). Cole, meanwhile, comes into his own as the Bighorns’ assistant coach, helping them win their final game when Coach Allen (Jesse Lipscombe) leaves early.

Alex and Cole’s respective sports-related pursuits are a major part of the storytelling this season, giving them a chance to explore their passions outside their complicated romantic dynamic with Jackie. Even so, Cole now has a genuine, well-earned chance at a college degree, which might bring him closer to Jackie as she continues to pursue a future at Princeton.

Alex’s dreams, on the other hand, might push him away from Jackie. While her support means the world to him, he’ll be touring a lot more with the sponsorship, and a semi-long-distance relationship may not be what either of them is looking for. Given the other romantic possibilities on Alex’s horizon, including trainer Blake and best friend Kiley, that distance may be for the best.

How Jackie Finds Her Independence In Silver Falls

My Life With the Walter Boys is still Jackie’s story; thankfully, this season gives her a chance to grow beyond the central love triangle. Not only does Walter Boys season 2 realistically explore her grief and her relationship with her family, but the show also gives her a chance to find her place and role within Silver Falls’ community.

She organizes the Fall Formal, runs for class president, and tells Katherine Walter (Sarah Rafferty) that she wants to be treated as an equal in the Walter family household. In the My Life With the Walter Boys season 2 finale, Jackie finally earns her driver’s license, and she wins a Silver Falls Young Sparkler Award, which recognizes her support of the school and its students.

In season 1, so much of Jackie’s sense of belonging within her new family and at school was reliant on her connection to the Walter brothers. It’s nice to see her turn that around this season, even if she is still confused between Alex and Cole. She’s building a life for herself, one that will get her through whatever romantic hardships she may face next.

What Happens To My Life With The Walter Boys’ Other Relationships In Season 2

The awkward reunion between Jackie, Cole, and Alex wasn’t the only romantic drama in play this season. Three other romance subplots influenced this season’s storytelling, including the continuation of Danny Walter (Connor Stanhope) and Erin’s (Alisha Newton) relationship, the dramatic turn of Nathan and Skylar Summerhill’s (Jaylan Evans) romance, and Kiley and Dylan’s new dynamic.

Though Danny and Erin seemed to be going strong and even ended the season with a kiss, their relationship is fraught with tension. They both know that their respective dreams will pull them apart, so how long can they really keep their relationship going?

It’s a shame, because they were one of the most delightful surprises from My Life With the Walter Boys season 1, yet the way their story ends in Walter Boys season 2 is undeniably realistic and relatable. They were a nice grounding presence in a season full of overwhelmingly dramatic romantic twists, especially in comparison to the secondary love triangle between Nathan, Skylar, and the manipulative Zach (Carson MacCormac).

My Life With the Walter Boys is based on the novel of the same name by Ali Novak. The story was originally published on Wattpad.

Once Zach’s real reason for pursuing Nathan became clear – he wanted to use him to get back with Skylar – Nathan felt genuine remorse about his actions. While Nathan’s need for validation after coming out was understandable, Skylar’s inability to trust him again was reasonable, too. However, since both Nathan and Skylar admitted they still loved each other, there’s room for reconciliation in season 3.

Whereas Danny and Erin were season 1’s most pleasantly unexpected couple, that award goes to Kiley and Dylan in season 2. While it was hard to tell where their story was going at first, Kiley had a really positive impact on Dylan’s character and his journey as a footballer, and he was genuinely interested in getting to know her, something she deserved after being ignored by Alex once Jackie arrived.

Their kiss at the festival was sweet, but Alex’s stony expression in response hints that there may still be trouble brewing for them. Is Kiley completely over Alex, or will his new implied interest in her push her away from Dylan?

In the finale, Cole finally asks Jackie why she’s been so intent on them remaining friends, even though she’s been hiding her rekindled relationship with Alex. She tells him that he’s the only person who has ever made her feel out of control, and that’s why she can’t be with him, even though she loves him.

Cole may not understand Jackie, but her reasoning makes sense. After the tragedy with her family, Jackie’s need for control is an automatic reflex. Because she doesn’t feel that same level of passion for Alex, she maintains the upper hand in their relationship. That’s not necessarily fair to Alex, but it’s clear where she’s coming from. It’s a shame Alex had to overhear her and Cole’s heated discussion, though.

What Happened To George Walter In The Top Field?

Right after Jackie and Cole’s face-off, the eldest Walter brother, Will (Johnny Link), comes charging up to the house, as an ambulance appears in the driveway. Something happened to Walter patriarch George (Marc Blucas) while he was out exploring the furthest reaches of the ranch. It’s unclear what occurred, though, creating a second dramatic cliffhanger at the end of My Life With the Walter Boys season 2.

With the stress of everything that’d been happening on the ranch, including the development, the town’s petition, the barn burning down, and the new deal with the winery, something was bound to push him over the edge. An illness was hinted at earlier in the season, when George briefly clutched his abdomen during his date night with Katherine, so this storyline has been in development for a while.

How My Life With The Walter Boys Season 2’s Ending Sets Up Season 3

Netflix has already confirmed that My Life With the Walter Boys will return for season 3, so thankfully, all of this season’s plot threads and cliffhangers will be resolved.

What will happen to George is anyone’s guess. However, given what Jackie has already had to endure, it would be a surprising move for the show to write about George’s death. It’s more likely he’ll be unable to help with the ranch for some time after a hospital stay, which may lead to a potential leadership position for Will.

And yet, if Will and his newly returned wife Hayley (Zöe Soul) are intent on seeing the world together, as she suggested in the My Life With the Walter Boys season 2 finale, this may cause problems for the ranch and further disagreements between the Walter family’s adults.

As for the teens, now that Alex knows how Jackie really feels about Cole, he might finally be able to move on. His friendship with Kiley is slowly on the mend, but there’s an air of jealousy surrounding his interactions with her. She pined for him in season 1. Will he pine for her in season 3? Or will he end up with Blake anyway, who still seems to be interested in him?

Jackie, meanwhile, may not want to give up her sense of control, but now that Cole’s on the right path, they might genuinely be a good match. He can help her let go, while she can help him work towards his new future.

If the love triangle is finally at an end, we may see Cole and Jackie move their relationship away from the shadows and share it with their family. How everyone else will feel about that in My Life With the Walter Boys’ upcoming season remains to be seen.

My Life With the Walter Boys season 2 is available now, only on Netflix.
