We all know and love Jed Mercurio’s Line of Duty. One of the best British crime series of the 21st century, across nine years and six seasons, it left viewers gripping to the edge of their seats thanks to more twists and turns than the world’s longest rollercoaster. Through these nine years, global audiences came to adore the central trio working at the anti-corruption unit AC-12, which included Martin Compston, Vicky McClure, and Adrian Dunbar. Now, one of this brilliant trio is about to dive into a new drama you’ll also not want to miss.

Dunbar, best known for playing the steadfast Ted Hastings on Line of Duty, is teaming up with Bad Sisters‘ Sarah Greene and The Capture‘s Barry Ward in an adaptation of the best-selling 2020 novel Grown Ups by Marian Keyes. Set to feature eight parts, the series, which also stars Irish comic Aisling Bea and The Umbrella Academy‘s Robert Sheehan, is scheduled to join the long line-up of other successful novel adaptations in Netflix’s catalog. The series has been written and created by Samantha Strauss, who most recently earned acclaim for her creation of the miniseries Apple Cider Vinegar, starring Kaitlyn Dever. In a statement, Strauss said:

“I know I’m not alone in being obsessed with every word Marian Keyes has ever written, and it is a true life highlight to be trusted with her characters as we bring the Casey family and the world of Grown Ups to Netflix. James Griffiths, our set up director is already crafting something beautiful and very human. I am pinching myself to be in the company of our preposterously glorious cast and our fantastic crew as we shoot here in sunny Ireland.”

What Is ‘Grown Ups’ About?

Given the impressive cast and the talented team behind the upcoming series, there’s likely not much left you need to convince you to watch Grown Ups when it arrives. That is, perhaps, other than what the series is about. “Set in south county Dublin, Grown Ups follows the chaotic lives of the Casey clan, a noisy tight-knit Irish family, who are bound together by a tangled web of loyalty, resentment, money, memory and love,” the synopsis begins. “When the rock of the family, the ‘good son’, dies unexpectedly, it sets off a seismic emotional reckoning. Over the course of the next year, the Caseys will fall in and out of love, confront old wounds and make some new ones.” The synopsis concludes, “They’ll be forced to face not only their grief, but the exhausting, relentless, and often ridiculous struggle of being an adult. Despite their age and responsibilities, the Caseys are far from grown up.”
