‘Heartland’ Secures Netflix Extension; Release Dates For Season 17 and 18 Set
New seasons are confirmed to be coming to Netflix in the US and internationally in the next few weeks.

It’s been a turbulent few months for Netflix fans of Heartland, the hit Canadian show, which will soon be coming back with its 19th season on CBC. For a while, it looked like those in the US would be seeing the show removed in its entirety, but thankfully, a last-minute extension and now a renewal mean the show shouldn’t be leaving anytime soon. Here’s what we know!
To bring anyone up to speed who’s not aware, Heartland is the feel-good series adaptation of the Lauren Brooke novels starring Amber Marshall, Michelle Morgan, and Shaun Johnston. It’s had an incredible run since its debut in October 2007 with 269 episodes now under its belt. A nineteenth season of the family ranch drama will air soon on CBC, the show’s original network, having just recently concluded filming on its 10-episode new season, which took place between May 13th and July 29th, 2025. The show is eying an October 5th, 2025, return.

Given that Heartland’s availability differs depending on where you live, let’s break this down into Netflix US and international:
Streaming on Netflix for well over a decade, with the first five seasons added in September 2014 and almost annual additions thereafter, the show seemed poised to leave Netflix for good this Summer. As we first reported, the series saw a “Last day to watch” notification added to it throughout July, suggesting that the series would be removed in full beginning August 1st. As that date drew closer, the notice was removed, but we were still in the dark about its status.
Our understanding is that Netflix’s US rights were extended to September 1st and then again to January 1st, 2026, but with the new season scheduled to arrive, that’ll likely be extended years into the future.
Now, we know that season 17, which aired in 2023, will be joining Netflix in the United States (finally) on September 15th, 2025.
That new season consists of 10 episodes, with the opening episode synopsis reading as follows: “Amy is surprised when Mallory shows up very obviously pregnant at the ranch with a wild horse. Jack and Tim face new competition, and Lou grapples with a familiar opponent in her campaign.”
No word on season 18 for Netflix US, but given prior release schedules, expect it to land sometime in 2026. As we’ve previously covered, Netflix US is last to get the show, given that the first-run rights reside with UP Family and Faith.
Season 18 Arriving on Netflix in International Territories in September 2025
Netflix in the United States isn’t the only region getting a new season of Heartland. Netflix in international territories, such as the United Kingdom, is set to get all 10 episodes that make up season 18 also on September 15th, 2025. That season initially aired between October and December 2024.
International territories weren’t scheduled to see the show removed in August, like the US. However, they continue to have the early seasons of the show missing from the library since their removal in 2022.
Note: Netflix has previously declined (on multiple occasions with different representatives) to comment on the streaming availability of Heartland in the United States.
