Liam Payne’s Girlfriend Kate Cassidy Recalls Emotional ‘Last Goodbye’ with Singer Ahead of 1-Year Anniversary of His Death

The influencer shared the heartbreaking last thing the One Direction singer told her before his death

Kate Cassidy is opening up about her final moments with the late musician Liam Payne.

In an emotional video posted on Oct. 12, the influencer, 26, candidly shared how she was continuing to process her grief ahead of the one-year anniversary of Payne’s death.

“I come on here not to cry — I feel honestly extremely numb today,” Cassidy started the clip. “I actually think somebody could slap me across the face and I wouldn’t be fazed.”

Continued the internet personality: “I wanted to make this video because I wanted to express how important it is to really remind your loved ones how much you love them. I know I say it, but you never know what tomorrow brings.”

In the video, she recalled her final goodbye with the performer before she left Argentina, where he died four days later.

“I was sitting on the couch, just expressing to him how much I’m going to miss him, how much I love him,” she said, her voice breaking. “Honestly, it’s so weird to look back at because it was such a long, heartfelt goodbye. He looked at me and he said, ‘[Kate], you’re going to miss your flight. You’re acting like this is the last time you’re ever going to see me again.’ And little did I know, it literally was the last time I got to see him.”

Added Cassidy: “I’m so, so glad that me and Liam had that last goodbye the way it was.”

On Oct. 16, Payne, 31, died after he fell from the balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. An autopsy later revealed that he died of “polytrauma,” meaning multiple injuries that involve multiple organs or systems, and a toxicology report confirmed he had traces of “alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants” in his system at the time of his death.

Cassidy and the former One Direction band member first sparked dating rumors when they were spotted attending a Halloween party together in October 2022, fueling further speculation the following month when Cassidy shared a photo of Payne on her Instagram during a trip to Rome.

The pair confirmed their relationship in December 2022, posing together at the British Fashion Awards.

Though there were reports that Cassidy and Payne had split in May of the following year, the couple dispelled rumors the next month when they were spotted holding hands out on a date night in London.

In the days after his death, Cassidy spoke out on her Instagram Stories, telling her followers that she was at “a complete loss” following the news.

“Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam,” wrote the grieving internet personality.

She was in attendance at his funeral in England in November 2024 alongside his One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan.
