Despite Bosch’s denial, he reiterated his claim that she was acting in the interests of her country’s pageant director, calling her a “dummy.”

Multiple contestants started to follow Miss Mexico after she walked out of the room, but Itsaragrisil instructed them to stay. “If anyone wants to continue the contest, sit down,” he told the women as they looked around in confusion.

How did Miss Mexico respond to the confrontation?

Despite Itsaragrisil’s dismissal, Bosch did not sit down in her seat after denying she received orders from her country’s pageant director. When he asked why she was still standing, the pageant queen said, “Because I have a voice,” adding, “You are not respecting me as a woman.”

He promptly summoned security, and the group of contestants immediately called out in protest. On her way out of the auditorium, Bosch told Itsaragrisil, “As women, you need to show respect for us. I’m here representing a country, and it’s not my fault that you have problems with my organization.”

After the incident, Bosch addressed the media in a video shared by pageantry_com and tgpc_official on Instagram.

“You’re director is not respectful,” she said in the interview. “He called me dumb.”

“I think that’s not fair because I am here. I do everything okay. I don’t mess with anyone. I just try to be kind,” she continued. “I think that the world needs to see this because we are empowered women and this is a platform for our voice.”

What has the Miss Universe Organization said about the incident?

Later that day, the Miss Universe Organization released a statement on Instagram. The pageant stated its dedication to “upholding the highest standards of respect, safety, and integrity for all participants, staff, and stakeholders.”

“A high-level delegation, led by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mario Búcaro, is traveling to Thailand to strengthen collaboration with the host country, [the Miss Grand International Organization (MGI)], and relevant authorities,” said the pageant. “This mission aims to coordinate efforts, ensure a secure and professional environment for all delegates, and reaffirm MUO’s commitment to transparency, respect, and unity.”

The organization’s post confirmed that all “scheduled events and activities” would continue as planned, “in full cooperation with the host country and MGI, reaffirming our shared goal of delivering an exceptional global celebration that reflects the values of diversity, empowerment, and inclusion that define the Miss Universe legacy.”

The statement concluded, “The Miss Universe Organization remains steadfast in its mission to promote collaboration, respect, and opportunity for women around the world, working hand in hand with all partners to ensure a safe, inspiring, and memorable experience for every delegate.”

Has pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisil spoken out about the incident?

Itsaragrisil has since apologized for the heated exchange. In a video response, he said he spoke with the pageant contestants present at the time. “If anyone [was] feeling not good, if anyone [was] not comfortable. If anyone [was affected], I do apologize for everyone.”

He also stated his intention to maintain a “high standard” amongst the Miss Universe delegates.

Miss Universe President Raul Rocha Cantu posted a video statement as well, in which he expressed his “solidarity and support” for all the women. “I will not allow the values of respect and dignity toward women to be violated. Unfortunately, Nawat has forgotten the true meaning of what it means to be a genuine host,” Rocha said.

“It means to demonstrate to all delegates of all countries that he, as a host, has the obligation to serve them, assist them and support them,” he continued. “And to ensure they have a unique life experience filled with kindness and courtesy.”

He also noted his “great indignation” toward Itsaragrisil “for the public aggression he committed against Fatima Bosch, whom he humiliated, insulted and showed a lack of respect, in addition to the serious abuse of having called security to intimidate a defenseless woman,” said Rocha. “Trying to silence her and exclude her.”
