Black Glove Found in Search for Nancy Guthrie, FBI Says
Investigators searching for the person responsible for abducting 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie have recovered a black glove that may be linked to the crime, the New York Post reported on Wednesday. The glove was found roughly a mile and a half from Guthrieâs Tucson-area home and resembles the type worn by a masked individual seen in surveillance footage released by the FBI, according to the report.
Authorities have been canvassing the neighborhood and surrounding desert terrain as the investigation intensifies. The FBI previously released video showing a person wearing dark clothing and gloves disabling a security camera outside Guthrieâs residence on the night she disappeared.

Why it Matters
The discovery of a glove that may match what the unidentified person wore in surveillance footage provided investigators with a potential physical lead in a case that has drawn national attention and thousands of public tips. Authorities said calls to a dedicated tip line surged after the FBI shared images of the masked figure.
Guthrie, the mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1. The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to her recovery as agents expanded searches across the Catalina Foothills.

Nancy Guthrie Investigation Latest
Investigators recovered a black glove on a dirt or walking path near Guthrieâs home on Wednesday, and forensic investigators collected the item, according to pictures from the scene. Page Six reported that the discovery was roughly 1.5 miles from the residence.
The discovery came one day after the FBI released security images and videos on showing a person wearing gloves, a mask and a backpack who appeared to tamper with Guthrieâs doorbell camera shortly before it went offline. Officials said the footage was recovered after the device was disconnected.
After the images were made public, tip volume increased dramatically, with more than 4,000 calls in 24 hours and about 18,000 since February 1, the Pima County Sheriffâs Department said.
On Wednesday, TMZ reported that it had received another note in connection with the case demanding 1 Bitcoin (estimated value: $67,005.34) be paid for information on the possible abductor.
The outlet and another local news outlet previously received a ransom note, multiple outlets reported, with Savannah Guthrie addressing the possible kidnapper directly in a video on Instagram, offering to pay the ransom.
Has Anyone Been Arrested in the Case?
No arrests have been announced as of late Wednesday.
Authorities said a man detained during a traffic stop south of Tucson for questioning was released without charges after investigators interviewed him and searched a property in Rio Rico under a warrant.
Officials said the detention followed leads and that the investigation remained active.
Where Was Nancy Guthrie the Night She Went Missing?
Guthrie was last seen the night of January 31 after having dinner with family and being dropped off at her home outside Tucson, relatives said. She was reported missing around noon the next day when she did not attend church.
What People Are Saying
Savannah Guthrie, Today co-host and daughter of Nancy Guthrie, said on Instagram Tuesday: âWe believe she is still out there. Bring her home.â
Carlos Palazuelos, a man detained for questioning and later released without charges, as reported by NBC News on Wednesday:Â â[It was] terrifying and like being kidnapped.â
What Happens Next
Authorities said they would continue canvassing the Tucson area and follow leads generated by the newly released video as forensic testing proceeds on the recovered glove. Officials urged anyone with information to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or the Pima County Sheriffâs Department at 520-351-4900.
Investigators have not announced additional briefings and declined interviews on Wednesday. The Pima County Sheriffâs Department said no news conference was scheduled.
