Today host Sarah Abo announces she’s pregnant with her first child

The Channel 9 host held back tears as she revealed the exciting news on the morning TV show.

Today co-host Sarah Abo has announced she’s expecting her first child with her husband Cyrus Moran. Dressed all in white, she held back tears while revealing the exciting news alongside the rest of her Channel 9 colleagues.

The 39-year-old admitted it’s been a difficult journey to get pregnant after losing a baby last year. But she was overjoyed to share she was a few months along and they’re expecting a boy.

“It’s not as easy as you I suppose sometimes think that pregnancy will be,” she said on Wednesday.

“It has been a bit of a bumpy ride, but here we are, and yes, it’s getting harder to hide.

“As much as I’d like to bury my head in the sand and not address it. We’re almost halfway now, so things are going well. And, yeah, so it’s good.”

The TV host didn’t say what name they had settled on just yet, but she and Cyrus had nicknamed him CJ for the time being.

Sarah revealed that she and Cyrus went through “test after test” before they told their respective families.

She added that she has been even more cautious in sharing the news with everyone else.

But she felt the time was right.

“When it comes to women and families and their fertility journeys, there is so much noise, and we face so many challenges on a daily basis,” Sarah said.

“And it’s the power of being able to overcome that, and hope for a happy solution.

“It was this time last year where we had our last pregnancy loss, and there was one, obviously, before that.

“So I think that’s also why I’ve been so cautious about sharing this news… it’s just one of those things that every day, I’m still terrified. I think I’m still finding it hard to believe that it’s happening.

“I will lean in and enjoy it. But I just think a lot of people understand what it’s like to have this cautious optimism.”

Her co-host, Karl Stefanovic, also got emotional as he praised her resilience and hard work, and wished her and Cyrus the best of luck.

“I work next to you every day, and I know you had some dramas, right? And last year you had so much crap in the newspapers, and it was around that time, and you didn’t tell anyone,” he said.

“You came to work, and your strength and courage during that was unbelievable.

“You fought that on your own with only a couple of people knowing.”

Today newsreader Jayne Azzopardi also praised Sarah for pushing through with her job when times were incredibly tough.

“I’ve been in a similar position to you, Sarah, and I know what that’s like… but this woman, let me tell you, to be going through that, and to be showing up here before 4am every morning with a smile on your face and presenting this show under spotlights, doing the brilliant, classy job that you always do, I mean, it must have taken an incredible emotional strength and resilience,” she said.

“And you’re going to need every ounce of that now you’re about to become a mim, because that baby is not going to go easy on you. And I’m just so thrilled for you and Cyrus, you’re going to be the best parents.”
