The body of a woman found in a canal has been identified – and it’s not missing Nancy Guthrie.
A woman was found dead in a canal in Phoenix, Arizona, on Saturday, March 7. Police were dispatched to the area of 27th Place and Grand Canal Trail at approximately 7.40 a.m. and they later released a statement revealing, “Details on the call indicated that an adult female was on the nearby canal bank and was unresponsive. When officers arrived, they located the woman, who was ultimately pronounced deceased on scene.”
Speculation quickly mounted that the body could be that of Nancy, who has been missing since February 1. It comes after a criminal attorney revealed the 6 huge red flags in Nancy’s case that “don’t add up.”

However, the body has now been identified as that of 42-year-old Alex Fleming. A homicide investigation is underway, with police saying the body had “signs of trauma,” according to ABC 15 Arizona.

The remains were found more than 100 miles from Nancy’s home in Tucson, Arizona. The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has revealed the body is not related to the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance.
They told TMZ they have “not been notified of any connection reference that case to the Nancy Guthrie case.” With the body in the lake now having been identified, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has given a small update on the search for Nancy.
The sheriff declined to discuss specific evidence on whether he believed she may still be alive, but he told Fox News reporter Michael Ruiz, “Anything is possible.”

Nancy was last seen at her home on January 31 after having dinner with her daughter, Annie Guthrie. Her family reported her missing on February 1 after she failed to attend a planned virtual church service with friends.
The FBI has teamed up with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department to try and find out what happened to the 84-year-old. As the investigation remains ongoing, officials have ruled out some lines of inquiry.
Investigators were seen looking into a damaged utility box which was found up the street from Nancy’s home in Tucson, Arizona. However, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has now said investigators have ruled out a link between this and Nancy’s kidnapping.
The biggest lead in the investigation is still the camera footage taken from Nancy’s doorbell camera, showing a masked intruder on her doorstep. The video was taken on the morning of her disappearance.
