A night drive through a Dallas-area suburb ended in tragedy. Two drivers accused of street racing slammed into a family vehicle, killing three people from the same family and leaving a child with injuries that changed his life.

The crash occurred in Duncanville, Texas. It’s a community southwest of Dallas, where police say two Chrysler 300 sedans were racing along West Wheatland Road before one of them struck a Toyota Corolla carrying four family members.

According to reporting by FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth, investigators determined that the Chrysler drivers were engaged in illegal street racing when the collision occurred at the intersection of West Wheatland Road and South Cedar Ridge Drive.

Three members of the family died from their injuries, while another child survived after undergoing surgery. The drivers accused of racing were not injured.

Police say the crash happened at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026. Witnesses reported seeing two Chrysler 300 sedans traveling westbound on West Wheatland Road at high speed moments before impact.

Investigators believe the Toyota Corolla was attempting to turn onto South Cedar Ridge Drive when one of the racing vehicles struck it. The force of the collision caused the Toyota to overturn.

Images and video from the scene showed the vehicle heavily damaged and resting on a sidewalk near the intersection. Witnesses described seeing debris scattered across the roadway as emergency crews arrived.

Duncanville police said officers were in the area and reached the crash site within about 30 seconds. By then, the aftermath had already unfolded. Authorities later stated that evidence collected at the scene, along with statements from multiple witnesses, indicated that the Chrysler drivers had been racing before the collision.

Family Suffers Loss Across Three Generations

Among those killed was 12-year-old Lucas Reyna. His mother, 50-year-old Maria Rodriguez, also died in the crash. A third victim, Lucas’ grandmother, Teresa Rodriguez, who was reported to be in her seventies, was also killed. The family’s loss spanned three generations in a single event.

A fourth occupant, a 12-year-old boy identified in various reports as Lucas’ cousin and stepson to one of the adults involved, survived but suffered injuries that relatives described as life-altering. Family members said the child underwent surgery and remained hospitalized following the crash.

The deaths prompted an outpouring of grief throughout the community. Flowers and memorial items were placed near the intersection where the collision occurred as residents gathered to pay tribute to the victims.

Drivers Arrested as Investigation Continues

Police arrested both suspected racers at the scene. The drivers were identified as 20-year-old Kishawn Christopher Copeland and 21-year-old Ronnie Lee Coleman.

Authorities announced that each man was charged with four counts of racing on a highway, a second-degree felony under Texas law when serious bodily injury or death results. Investigators indicated that additional charges could follow as the case moves forward and prosecutors review the evidence.

Officials noted that the posted speed limit along that section of West Wheatland Road is 40 miles per hour. Residents told local media that speeding had long been a concern in the area, although police have not said whether previous racing incidents had been reported at that intersection.

Community Demands Accountability

The crash has sparked outrage across Duncanville and the wider Dallas-Fort Worth region. Residents, family friends, and community members have called for consequences that reflect the scale of the loss. Many expressed frustration that three lives were taken while the drivers accused of racing escaped physical injury.

For relatives of the victims, the focus remains on honoring the lives lost and supporting the child who survived. As investigators continue their work, the intersection of West Wheatland Road and South Cedar Ridge Drive has become a gathering place for mourners seeking answers after a crash that erased three generations of one family in a matter of seconds.
