The Rock a WWE living legend starred at the last Wrestlemania XL
In a monumental move, earlier this year the WWE announced a massive $5 billion deal with Netflix, positioning the wrestling entertainment giant for unprecedented global reach. As part of this groundbreaking agreement, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson (52) has been appointed to the Board of Directors of TKO Group Holdings, an American media conglomerate formed through the merger of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (WWE) and Zuffa, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Following the phenomenal success of WrestleMania XL, where “The Rock” headlined one of the marquee matches, WWE released the WrestleMania XL ‘Behind the Curtains’ documentary. This one-hour special offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the intense preparations leading up to WrestleMania XL, which experts and fans alike have hailed as one of the greatest ever. The documentary features Johnson alongside other wrestling superstars such as Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, Seth “Freakin” Rollins, and Triple H. One of the most poignant moments in the documentary is when Johnson is brought to tears while looking at a photo of his late father, Rocky Johnson, who has been a profound inspiration in his life.
Rocky Johnson, who passed away on January 15, 2020, at the age of 75, was a Canadian professional wrestler. In 1983, he and his partner Tony Atlas became the first black champions in WWE history. After retiring in 1991,Rocky Johnson, alongside Pat Patterson, trained his son Dwayne in the art of wrestling, laying the foundation for what would become an illustrious career. Dwayne Johnson has since transcended wrestling, becoming a renowned actor, film producer, and businessman. According to Time magazine, he was named one of the world’s most influential people in 2016 and 2019.
Dwayne Johnson continues to be a powerhouse both in the WWE and the entertainment industry. He is set to star in the upcoming Christmas action movie, Red One, slated for release in November 2024. With this new role on TKO’s Board of Directors and his continuous contributions to the entertainment world, Johnson’s influence shows no signs of waning.
