Within less than a year of meeting, the couple tied the knot in an intimate Christmas Eve ceremony in Colorado.

Two years later, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman adopted their daughter Isabella in 1992 and completed their family by adopting their son, Connor, in 1995. Thereafter, the Kidman-Cruise family were often photographed together, until the couple’s infamous 2001 divorce. Since then, Isabella and Connor have been almost non-existent. Shortly after Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise‘s wedding in 1990, the couple started struggling with having a child. Suffering from ectopic pregnancy and miscarriages as per Tatler, the couple eventually planned on adopting kids and embracing them as their own. That’s when the young lovers adopted their first child Isabella Jane Cruise, in 1992.

Kidman told Vanity Fair in 2007:

From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies. And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic. And that’s when we would adopt [our daughter] Bella.

Right after adopting their daughter, Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise wished to expand their family. That’s when the couple opened their home and arms to their adopted son, Connor, in 1995. Thereafter, the couple, alongside their kids have enjoyed fame and prosperity and often posed for images together.

Kidman told WHO (via People) in 2012:

I got married really fast and really young. But I don’t regret that because it got me Bella and Connor and I did have a fantastic marriage for a long period.

However, things started changing between Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise, as the couple allegedly started having issues due to the actor’s association with the Church of Scientology. Soon, within six years of adopting their son, the couple’s marriage fell apart. Eventually, Kidman and Cruise filed for divorce in 2001 when Bella was just eight and Connor was six.

Since then, while Nicole Kidman moved on with her life and married her longtime love Keith Urban, Isabella and Connor continued to stay with Tom Cruise. Later on, Cruise married Katie Holmes in 2006 and had his first and only child Suri with his wife. However, despite having his biological daughter, the Top Gun actor didn’t sway from his responsibilities towards his adopted kids.

Nicole Kidman’s Comments About Her Children with Tom Cruise 

Meanwhile, considering how Nicole Kidman, who has often played a doting mother on screen, reportedly left her adopted kids with Tom Cruise, the actress suffered an estranged relationship with Isabella and Connor. Although she has often spoken positively about her children, the Kidman-Cruise kids have rarely made any comments about the actress.

Perhaps, considering how in 2018, while accepting her Best Actress Golden Globe, Kidman thanked her biological daughters and Keith Urban but didn’t mention Connor or Bella, the actress’ older kids started growing distant from her. So much so that Kidman told GMTV how Bella and Connor referred to her by her name (via DailyMail).

My kids don’t call me Mommy, they don’t even call me Mom. They call me Nicole, which I hate… They live with Tom, which was their choice. I’d love them to live with us, but what can you do?

Thereafter, during an interview with Australia’s The Weekly magazine, Kidman had referred to her older kids as “generous, kind and hardworking”. However, despite her heartfelt comments towards her older kids, she has rarely heard back from Isabella and Connor, until recently when the actress lost her mother, in 2024.

Following the shocking news, Nicole Kidman’s older kids reportedly penned a letter to their mother offering their sympathies and support. Later on, Women’s Day reported that Kidman is happy to hear from her children and would love to have “them back in her life”. Thereafter, sources noted;

The most heartwarming thing has been for Nicole to get a joint message from Bella and Connor, who she’s not heard from in a very long time. 

It’s kind of sad it took such a tragic moment to bring them back into her life, but she knows it would make her mum so happy if her passing brought her estranged grandkids back into the family. 

Therefore, it seems that although Nicole Kidman allegedly left Tom Cruise due to his association with the Church of Scientology, which later became a part of Isabella and Connor’s life, the actress couldn’t steer away from her kids regardless of how they chose to live their lives. Starting her business of selling t-shirts adorned with her own drawings, in 2018, the 31-year-old has established herself in the fashion industry.

Amid finding success in her career, Isabella Kidman Cruise married her longtime love, Max Parker, a British I.T. consultant in 2015. While the expenses of her marriage were reportedly paid off by the Mission: Impossible actor, neither of her famous parents attended the nuptials. However, a source close to Kidman told People that the actress was “very happy for Bella”.

Where is Connor Anthony Kidman Cruise Now? 

As for Connor Anthony Kidman Cruise, who was adopted as Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise’s second child, was raised by the actor in Los Angeles. Unlike his elder sister—who has maintained her distance from the spotlight—the 29-year-old got his first real taste of glam in 2008 when he acted alongside Will Smith in Seven Pounds.

Thereafter, although Connor Anthony Kidman Cruise appeared in the 2012 action film Red Dawn, he eventually switched to music as a teen. Soon he released his debut single in 2013 and landed DJ gigs around the country.
