Middle school janitor Richard Goodall won season 19 of America’s Got Talent and the $1 million grand prize on Tuesday during a two-hour live finale on NBC.

Richard, 55, was stunned as golden confetti fell around him and Heidi Klum, 51, who pressed her Golden Buzzer for him, ran to the stage and hugged the winner.

‘Like Simon says two minutes can change your life, my life has been transformed!’ Richard said. ‘Ange I did it.’

Heidi said she was excited for him and Simon Cowell, 64, came to the stage and hugged Richard, too.

Earlier in the show, Richard performed Don’t Stop Believin’ with Journey’s own Neal Schon and other members of legendary rock band.

‘We’ve been on tour for the last six months but I’ve been watching this phenomenon,’ Neal said. ‘He’s an amazing singer, an amazing man, and I’m proud to be here today for him.’

Richard said he never imagined he would be on stage with his hero.

‘Someone just pinch me,’ Richard said.

Terry shared that Richard had another dream come true and revealed that he had gotten married.

‘She is the love of my life,’ Richard said.

Roni Sagi and her dog Rhythm finished in second place.

Sky Elements drone act, comedian Learnmore Jonasi from Zimbabwe and quick-change artist Solange Kardinaly from Portugal also made it to the top five.

Learnmore finished in fifth place.

Solange finished in fourth place.

‘Thank you America for your support and love,’ Solange said.

Sky Elements finished in third place. Simon told them if he was having a New Year’s Eve party and had a huge budget that he would hire them.

‘This is just the beginning for all of you,’ Simon said.

The $1 million prize is payable in a financial annuity over 40 years, or the winner may choose to receive the present cash value of the annuity

Detroit Youth Choir opened the show with an epic performance and host Terry Crews, 56, joined in and danced with them on stage.

The top 10 contestants returned to the stage for some epic mashups with celebrities and other superstars. Seven-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, wearing a brown leather outfit, took the stage. Terry asked her what stood out for her from the Olympics.

‘For me it’s the camaraderie the girls shared between one another,’ Simone said. ‘I feel like we’ve kind of never seen that before at an Olympic game so it was nice to just celebrate and cheer everyone on.’

Terry asked her what it took to stay on top.

‘I would say hard work, dedication and lots of sacrifices to be made,’ Simone said.

Airfootworks joined DJ Steve Aoki for a fun dance act on stage that had the audience cheering. Simon bowed down to them when they finished.

‘Terry, I want to bring these guys to Vegas, they are amazing,’ Steve said when they finished.

Roni Sagi and her dog Rhythm performed with Brent Street, a dance crew from Sydney, Australia, and Hakuna Matata acrobats from Tanzania. They each showcased their skills in the joint act. Roni and her dog danced right before Brent Street took the stage dancing on their knees and Hakuna Matata balanced off each other.

Michael Bublé took the stage and sang his hit song Love backed by a full band. Singer Andra Day, 39, led an epic collaboration with singer Dee Dee Simon, who was also a nurse at San Quentin state prison, aerialists Sebastian & Sonia who spun high above the stage, and the Detroit Youth Choir, who danced along.

Next, the audience got to ask the judges questions. One asked Simon what he missed most about England and he said ‘rain.’ Heidi said what she loved most about Los Angeles was ‘the sun.’ Howie said that his comedian icon was ‘Richard Pryor.’ When asked who talked the most at the judges desk, Sofia said Heidi.

Sofia brought her dog Amore to the set and let Simon hold her.

‘She’s now my dog,’ Simon said.

Comedian Learnmore Jonasi from Zimbabwe had one of his dreams come true opening for Gabriel ‘Fluffy’ Iglesias in Las Vegas.

The cast of Magic Mike Live Las Vegas also danced for the judges with quick-change artist Solange Kardinaly from Portugal. Solange did a final change hanging from high above the stage and then the Magic Mike men ripped their shirts off.

America’s Got Talent premiered on NBC in June 2006.

Season 18 was won by dog act Adrian Stoica and Hurricane in September 2023.
