It was a very electric Thursday night in Montgomery as The Sun went backstage with the 2024 “The Voice” winner Asher HaVon as he rehearsed in preparation for a day of celebration in his honor and his live performance at home in Selma on Saturday.
Song after song, Asher and his entire performance team ripped through the highs, lows and every note and key in between. In a couple of the songs, he addressed Selma directly, like in “Never Would Have Made it” by Marvin Sapp where he looked into our camera and sang, reminding Selma he couldn’t have made it without home. “Selma, we’ve come to let you know tonight. Never would have made it…without you.”
As the long night went on, the pieces from “The Voice” rang through the air—Titanium, Irreplaceable, I Will Always Love You—and it was clear that Selma is in for a real live treat.
“I love Selma so much,” smiled Asher. “I can’t wait to get home and just have a good time with everyone, all of Selma.”
The concert is preceded by a 2-4 p.m. Meet and Greet with Asher hosted by Foot Soldiers Park and Reflections Coffee Shoppe at 1018 and 1014 Water Avenue. A 6 p.m. parade will follow, beginning at city hall. Those wishing to participate in the lineup should meet at 5 p.m. at J.L. Chestnut Boulevard and Washington Street.
