Chrissy Teigen might be a big fan of using social media herself, but she isn’t ready to let her kids join in anytime soon.
At Aura’s inaugural Digital Parenthood Summit on Tuesday, June 4, Teigen sat down with DreamWorks founder Jeffrey Katzenberg to discuss what it’s like raising kids in the world of social media.
The mother of four, 38, says that when it comes to iPad usage, “There’s a tight timeframe. Maybe an hour on the weekends” for her kids Luna, 8, Miles, 6, Esi, 16 months, and Wren, 11 months, whom she shares with husband John Legend.
What scares Teigen the most about iPad time is the large amount of inappropriate ads her kids are served while watching YouTube videos.
“Who am I going to call [to complain]?” she asks. “It makes me very uncomfortable.”
She adds that there should “absolutely’” be regulation on the ads children are given on the site.
The model says she would ideally let her kids join social media “after high school,” noting that would be her “absolute dream.”
“Unless there are more rules and regulations in place, I would prefer for them not to be on social,” she adds. “I want them to be safe and happy and flourishing as kids.”

It’s no secret that social media provides unrealistic images and expectations to its users. And as Teigen points out, children “won’t have the capacity to understand how fake this bulls— is.”
Despite her kids’ strict social media regulations, Teigen herself loves to share her family life online.
“I do share them a lot,” she says, “because, in so much of my life, I feel like people don’t understand me. But being a mom is where a lot of people understand me.”
“I love getting to have this community online here to get to share the ups and downs and people get to see it all.”
