Duncan Toombs had new coach LeAnn Rimes in tears by the time he was halfway through his Blind Audition.
Duncan Toombs is the latest country singer to wow the judges on The Voice Australia – could this season be the best one yet?
Singing Have A Little Faith by John Hiatt, Toombs had the audience in the palm of his hand and had new coach LeAnn Rimes in tears by the time he was halfway through the performance.
After impressing with his Blind Audition – getting all four coaches to turn for him – Rimes asked Toombs if he could perform a piece of music he’d written himself after Toombs revealed that he recently participated in songwriting sessions in Nashville.
Dedicating his song to his father, who passed away three years ago, it was an emotional performance that was impressive enough to be his audition song.
After all the coaches – LeAnn Rimes, Adam Lambert, Guy Sebastian, and Kate Miller-Heidke – made their pitches to try to convince Toombs to go to their teams, he went with LeAnn Rimes, citing his longstanding love for country music.
“I’m shitting myself about being on TV tonight in front of my friends and the whole of Australia,” Toombs wrote on social media yesterday (25 August). “I’m so lucky to have the love & support of my wife and kids…They are a massive part of why I’m having a crack at this. Watch me and a bunch of other incredible singers take the stage tonight at 7pm.”
He continued, “Big shout out to all of my friends for their messages of support and encouragement on the socials I promise you that I’ll give it everything I’ve got – Duncan.”
After his Blind Audition aired on television, Toombs returned with another post on social media: “My heart is truly overwhelmed with the love and support from you all tonight. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity. I want to thank all the coaches for their beautiful words of encouragement—LeAnn Rimes, Guy Sebastian, Kate Miller-Heidke, [and] Adam Lambert. Big thanks to the whole team at The Voice Australia.
“I’m so excited about this new journey I’m on and thrilled to be part of ‘Team LeAnn’ LeAnn .. you are a beautiful Human”.
In a separate post, he added, “Tonight LeAnn Rimes asked me to sing my original song about my Dad, Bob Toombs. I was trembling with nerves but got through it. @leannrimes .. I’m SO looking forward to having you as my coach and being part of Team LeAnn.”
Over the weekend, Toombs performed at this year’s Gympie Music Muster after recently filming music videos for Lucy Parle, Kim McCartin, Sammi Palinkas, and more. Earlier this month, Toombs opened for Troy Cassar-Daley on his Between The Fires Australian tour.
In January, Toombs took home two awards at the Golden Guitar awards: Heritage Song of the Year (for 1861), and CMT Video of the Year (for STEEL ON STEEL).
