Asher Havon, winner of season 25 of NBC’s The Voice, returned to his alma mater, Selma High School, on Friday, August 9. His surprise visit was a tribute to the Selma City School (SCS) district’s educators, many of whom were instrumental in shaping his journey to success. This program was part of the district-wide Institute Day. The singer’s motivational speech and performance were not just a form of entertainment, but a source of inspiration that inspired all SCS employees. Havon’s appearance is a profound testament to the influence of dedicated educators. Their profound impact on nurturing artistic talent and fostering future achievement is a testament to their dedication and the value they bring to our school district which consists of nearly 3,000 scholars. “In the end, we know he will inspire our principals, teachers, and other staff members to consistently encourage our students to learn to the fullest extent, fostering a year of growth and achievement,” said SCS chief of organizational leadership and development Jaclyn Wright. Concert rescheduled HaVon will return to Selma High School on Friday, August 30, at 8 p.m. for a concert in his hometown. The concert was previously scheduled for August 9, but it was changed due to the opening of school. “This show is probably the greatest show I have ever put on,” HaVon said on a Facebook reel. “I really want to make sure everybody who wants the chance to attend has that opportunity.” The Back to School Scholarships and Performance will also be giving out 11 scholarships to students from all eight Selma City Schools and the three Dallas County High Schools. The selected students will receive their scholarships on Friday, August 30, during the concert. “I’m coming back to put money in the hands of the kids for their education,” HaVon said. They have already sold out of the previously announced VIP tickets, but plenty of general admission tickets are still available. Those who would like to attend the concert can purchase tickets on EventBrite by searching for HaVon’s name.
