Exposing Fox News CEO Roger Ailes of his rumored s*xual misconduct, and narrating the true story of what went on behind closed doors, Margot Robbie‘s thriller drama Bombshell was all set to start filming in 2019, when things suddenly took a grave turn. Two weeks before cameras were set to start rolling on the film, the studio associated with the project took a step down, claiming the subject matter was a controversial topic.
The film was set to star Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman, and John Lithgow in important roles. But unfortunately, ahead of starting the production, actress/producer Theron and director Jay Roach got some unwelcome news about Bombshell getting shelved.
“It felt like getting sucked out of an airplane at high altitude and just falling. Has any film ever come back together two weeks out?” Roach expressed his disappointment to The Washington Times.
However, in a remarkable display of determination and quick thinking, Charlize Theron single-handedly saved the movie from being canceled after the studio abandoned the project. Refusing to let the movie fall apart, Theron worked tirelessly to secure a deal within 24 hours. Soon, the actress found a new partner, as Bron Studios came on board to finance and produce Bombshell.
Thereafter, within 72 hours, even Lionsgate joined the project, ensuring the film made it to the big screen. Charlize Theron’s quick wit not only saved Bombshell but also made sure that the important story gets heard.
Margot Robbie’s Bombshell Became a Critically Success
Nicole Kidman’s Bombshell eventually made its way to the theatres in December 2019, after overcoming terrifying hurdles during its production. Conveying the story of the women who took down Roger Ailes for his reported misconduct, the thriller drama saw Theron in the role of Megyn Kelly, while Robbie played Kayla Pospisil, and Kidman appeared as Gretchen Carlson.
Despite the last-minute panic, the movie wrapped on time and even got made within budget. Perhaps the fear of Bombshell getting shelved gave everyone a greater sense of purpose, which ended up turning the story into a stunning tipping point in the MeToo movement against s*xual harassment in the workplace.
