The Voice UK viewers were left stunned on Saturday night over an ‘unexpected’ detail minutes into the launch episode of series 13 as three new coaches joined the famous panel
The Voice UK viewers were left stunned on Saturday night over an ‘unexpected’ detail minutes into the launch episode.
During the latest instalment, which was the first episode of season 13, series regulars will.i.am and Sir Tom Jones were joined by new coaches LeAnn Rimes, Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones. At the start of the first episode, the coaches all joined together to put on an incredible performance of Stevie Nicks’ Edge of Seventeen on the pitch at Old Trafford.
The mesmerising performance was captivating with backup dancers, fireworks, pyrotechnics and a huge crowd watching the show. It is believed that the star-studded gig was actually filmed earlier this year but aired on Saturday night for the first episode of series 13.
Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to share their surprise at the ‘unexpected’ start to the show. One person said: “Not even five minutes in and this is the best opening to #thevoiceuk I’ve seen in all the years watching it”, a different account wrote: “Epic song for an Epic opening for #TheVoiceUk”, another said: “What an #Opening to #thevoice #Thevoiceuk now on #ITV1” while a different fan put: “What an opening to the show!!!! WOW!! Great to have you back!!! #TheVoiceUk @thevoiceuk.”

Elsewhere, another said: “Actual chills. The best opening to any series of @thevoiceuk. The Theatre of Dreams looked absolutely spectacular. #TheVoiceUK” while another added: “OK I have to admit – #TheVoiceUK basically doing their own Superbowl for an Edge of Seventeen performance with LeAnn Rhimes, Tom Jones, 2 of McFly and Will.I.Am was not expected but was actually pretty epic.”
It comes as Sir Tom Jones opened up about his future on The Voice UK, declaring it’s “it’s the perfect job”. The 84-year-old has been a coach on the UK version of the singing competition alongside Will.i.am since 2012. Despite the show now being in its 13th season, Tom admitted he still relishes his long-standing role.
On BBC’s The One Show on Thursday (August 22), Tom revealed that his passion for the show remains unchanged. Speaking to hosts Alex Jones and Clara Amfo, the legendary singer said: “I like listening to new voices and hopefully I can give some advice. So it’s the perfect job for me – well it’s not really a job – it’s something that I love to do. I still feel the same way now because this is the 13th series, so I still feel the same way now as I did when we started because you get new voices all the time, new people coming on.”
While Tom seems set to continue in his role as a judge, this year’s series will introduce three new faces to the famous judging panel. Following the departures of Olly Murs and Anne-Marie, The Voice UK is making a comeback on ITV, with LeAnn Rimes and McFly’s Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones, who will share a seat.
The Voice UK continues on Saturdays at 8pm on ITV and ITV X.
