The actor’s nosiness got the best of her during a dinner party full of A-listers.

Actor, director, and producer Kyra Sedgwick has been in the film and TV business for decades. And she and her husband of 33 years, Kevin Bacon, are one of Hollywood’s most enduring star couples. But despite her standing and accomplishments, the Call Your Mother star hasn’t been asked back to the home of one A-lister since her first time there three decades ago. In an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Kyra Sedgwick revealed why she seems to have gotten herself banned from Tom Cruise‘s house. Sedgwick said she was invited to Cruise’s house for the first time in the early 1990s.

The Drew Barrymore Show/In the early ’90s, as Sedgwick told host Drew Barrymore, she and Bacon attended a dinner party and private screening at Cruise’s house. Bacon had just worked with Cruise on A Few Good Men, and Sedgwick had co-starred with him a few years previous, in 1989’s Born on the Fourth of July. She was pregnant with the couple’s second child, Sosie Bacon, at the time.

Other stars present, as Sedgwick recalled, were Demi Moore (who was also in A Few Good Men) and then-husband Bruce Willis, director Rob Reiner, and Cruise’s now-ex Nicole Kidman.

Though she and her husband were both colleagues of Cruise’s, Sedgwick said that she didn’t usually find herself in such A-list company. “It was one of those nights that, you know, I often don’t get invited to,” she explained to Barrymore.

She accidentally called the police to Cruise’s house, resulting in her never getting invited back.

Bart Sherkow/ShutterstockSedgwick said that she did a little exploration of casa de Cruise, and came across a button underneath a fireplace mantle. “I was like, ‘Ooh, what’s that little button?'” she said. “So I pressed the little button because I thought maybe something interesting will happen–”

“Like the wall will turn around,” Barrymore interjected.

“Exactly, yeah,” Sedgwick went on. “Nothing happened, and then I got a little nervous. I was like, ‘Ooh, nothing happened, that doesn’t seem right.’ So I tapped Tom on the shoulder, who was in the middle of a story, and I said, ‘I pressed this button down here.’ And he was like, ‘You pressed that button?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I pressed that button,’ and he goes, ‘That’s the panic button.'”

Sedgwick explained that they had to halt the screening of the movie because police reported to the home and had to speak to Cruise to make sure that everything was okay.

According to Sedgwick, it was a major to-do. “I think there were more than five cop cars,” she remembered. “It was something. I didn’t get invited back.”

The officers took the call as an opportunity to meet Cruise.

Featureflash Photo Agency/ShutterstockSedgwick also told the story when she was on The Late Late Show With James Corden in 2016. In that appearance, she elaborated on what happened when the cops reported to the site of what they thought may have been a crime.

“[Cruise] tried to send people down to say, ‘No worries, I’m fine,'” she said, “but they wouldn’t leave until they actually saw him.”

Cruise has never commented on the faux pas, but Sedgwick maintains that she hasn’t been a guest in his home since.

Sedgwick admitted that it was obviously her own fault, but she can laugh about it now.

Barrymore told Sedgwick that she knows that they both have a nosy streak. The Closer actor agreed that she likes to poke around other people’s homes, which is how she found herself in trouble with Cruise.

“It was a sad moment, but it’s a funny story,” she said.

Barrymore added that hearing it the first time “delighted [her] to no end.”
