This THE VOICE Coach Says There’s ‘Nothing Like’ Season 26
Movieguide® Contributor
Michael Bublé is happy to be around on THE VOICE Season 26, which has a special mesh of coaches, unlike any previous season of the show.
“I was really nervous to do the show,” Bublé told TV Insider this week. “But from what I hear from the crew that’s been there all 14 years, is that there’s been nothing like this [group of coaches]. We’re just a group that gelled and really complement each other, really liked each other. I think it’s a special thing, and I really can’t wait for people to see it. I think they’re going have a tremendous time watching.”
Movieguide® previously reported:
THE VOICE is adding two new dynamic coaches for Season 26. Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé will be joining Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani in their search for a singing superstar.
Variety reported, “The announcement was made as part of the NBCUniversal upfront presentation to advertisers on Monday in New York. Snoop took the stage at Radio City Music Hall to announce he was joining the show before introducing Bublé. Bublé (briefly) tried his hand at rapping before launching into a performance of ‘You’re Nobody ’til Somebody Loves You.’”
Leaving THE VOICE judge panel this season are John Legend, Chance the Rapper and Dan + Shay. Legend spoke with ET about the upcoming transition.
THE VOICE has a high-energy atmosphere, but Bublé loves it.
“It’s intense. But it’s the best job I’ve ever had. My mom and dad came today to see the first taping and they were like, ‘This is the greatest show on earth.’ It’s electric,” he said.
He tries to take a tender approach when he coaches.
“I hope it’s self-deprecating and gentle. It’s not a game for me. And I know it’s a competition, but there’s nothing funny about someone’s dream, you know? I take it very seriously,” he said.
When he analyses an artist, he doesn’t just consider their voice.
“I’ve not just looked at voices, I’ve looked at the artistry, the craft. I’ve really tried to build a team of people who are confident. They’re singers, songwriters, entertainers. I’ve got a little bit of everything — R&B, pop and country.”
He and the other new entry to THE VOICE, Snoop Dogg, quickly bonded.
“I don’t think it has anything to do with us being new. The first time we met, we just clicked, you know? Honestly, we’re a good fit. We laugh a lot together. I’m a big fan of that guy, as an artist and as a human being,” the musician said.
When asked if he’ll perform this season, he replied, “Absolutely. Snoop, Reba, Gwen and I sang together. And yeah, we sing a lot. We sing every day.”
Back in Season 3, the “Feeling Good” singer served as an advisor. Now, it’s a different ballgame.
“Oh, it’s so much cooler because I love getting to work with the artists. I’ve had the most amazing journey, and I’ve had my dream come true,” he told TV Insider. “The fact that I can be a part of helping someone else, in their life, do that same thing, there’s nothing better. It’s really fulfilling.”
Though there’s some competition between coaches in THE VOICE, they treat each other with respect.
“I don’t think that any of us got to the positions we’re in without being competitive, but all of us know who we are and who we want to be. And so, while it’s competitive, we never cut each other down. There’s always humor. There’s always love.”
He continued, “It’s going to be different than other seasons. I think that in other seasons, that there may have been a bit more edge, but the drama will come from what’s at stake for our artists, and for us as coaches and human beings.”
Other than the launch of THE VOICE Season 26 on Sept. 23, Bublé is looking forward to the release of his 21-track album on Sept. 27, called The Best of Bublé, which features two unreleased songs.
Movieguide® reported on Bublé last year:
Singer Michael Bublé is opening up about how his son’s liver cancer diagnosis changed his life.
“My son’s cancer diagnosis rocked my world,” he said. “It pulled the curtain from over my eyes. And that was a sledgehammer to my reality. And I will never be carefree, and that’s okay. It is a privilege for me to exist, and that pain, the fear, the suffering that comes with those sorts of things is, I guess it’s part of that beautiful, this life.”
Bublé’s son Noah, 10, was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2016 at the age of 3.
“I remember closing my eyes and saying to myself ‘If we get out of this…I’m living a different life. A better life,’” he said. “And I did. I made that promise to myself in a moment, you know. I want to be kinder. I want to be more empathetic. I don’t ever want to allow that ego and that false self to take over. I want to know how lucky I am.”
