Reba McEntire Reveals Her Strategy To Win ‘The Voice’ Is Unlike Anything The Show Has Ever Seen

“I am going to have my game plan ready to go, and we’ve all been talking about it, so it’s going to be something brand new The Voice has never seen it before,” Reba joked.

Blake Shelton has officially given up his seat on NBC’s The Voice after 23 seasons. But that doesn’t mean country music won’t be represented when the show returns in the fall.

Reba McEntire has signed on to be a full-time coach. She has plenty of experience with the reality TV competition series, having provided assistance once as a battle adviser to Team Blake and as a Mega Mentor.

“Refreshing Thing To Be Around Talented People”

When asked what made her say ‘Yes’ to her new and upcoming role, McEntire says the fun she recently had working alongside contestants was what made her want to be around them even more.

“When I was doing the mega mentor, it was so much fun. I was totally interested in the kids when they would come in and sing. So talented. That is just a refreshing thing to be around talented people,” the 68-year-old country icon told Access Hollywood. “I love it. And if I can help anybody with anything I’ve learned over the last 48 years, then I think that’s my duty to do that, and I’m going to enjoy doing it.”

Reba McEntire Is Replacing Blake Shelton On The Voice

McEntire may have some big shoes to fill since Shelton completed his run on the program on a high note. His history on the show includes, coming out on top for nine seasons and earning the title as the winningest coach overall. But that success doesn’t seem to bother McEntire because she claims she already has a strategy heading into Season 24 of The Voice.

“I am going to have my game plan ready to go, and we’ve all been talking about it, so it’s going to be something brand new The Voice has never seen it before,” the three-time Grammy winner promises before incorporating a bit of sass into her message. “I don’t have competition. You know, we’re smoking. We’re going to be really rocking it.”

“[Blake’s got] big boots. I don’t know what size those boots are, but they’re big, so I’m gonna really work hard to make him proud,” she also previously told PEOPLE.

Plans To Step Up Her Fashion Game

And, when it comes to stepping up her outfit game, McEntire is here to play.

“I do understand that I need to go razzle-dazzle with Gwen being on there,” McEntire says. “Gwen’s always got the nicest outfits, so I really need to step up my game on that.”

Of note, McEntire also insists she received some guidance from Shelton, which is bound to make her the one-to-beat when The Voice returns with an all-new crop of talented hopefuls.

“I got all my advice that I’m ever going to take from Blake Shelton, so I am so ready,” McEntire warns.

Wishes She Could Have Done A Season Of The Voice With Shelton

And, while McEntire is up for the challenge to take up Shelton’s red chair, she admits, she would’ve enjoyed competing against him if she had the opportunity.

“Everybody loves Blake. Whatever he does, everybody loves him and so they’ll miss him. Everybody, I’m going to miss him,” McEntire says with emotion. “I wish I could have done a season or two with him. That would’ve been a lot of fun.”

McEntire announced she would be replacing Shelton on The Voice earlier this year, posting a promotional video for the show on Instagram.

“There’s a new Coach in town! See you all this Fall! #TheVoice,” McEntire wrote on social media.

When The Voice returns for its 24th season, McEntire will appear alongside returning judges John Legend, Niall Horan, and Gwen Stefani. The next season of The Voice is set to premiere this fall and will air on Mondays (8/7c) and Tuesdays (9/8c). The show will also be available to stream next day on Peacock.
