Reba McEntire’s New Sitcom Gets Full-Season Order
Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman’s new comedy TV series, HAPPY’S PLACE, just received an order for five more episodes, bringing the first season to 18 episodes in total.
“The full-season pick-up comes four weeks after the freshman comedy’s Oct. 18 premiere. Season-to-date, HAPPY’S PLACE is averaging 4.6 million total viewers and a 0.4 demo rating (with delayed playback), ranking No. 4 in audience out of this TV season’s 12 comedies (trailing only GEORGIE & MANDY’S FIRST MARRIAGE, GHOSTS, and THE NEIGHBORHOOD),” TV Line reported.
“The iconic Reba McEntire returns to TV comedy in this heartfelt new series as Bobbie, a tough but lovable woman who inherits her late father’s Tennessee tavern – only to discover that her new co-owner is also the half-sister she never knew she had!” NBC’s synopsis reads. “They couldn’t be more different, but they’ll navigate this new life together… because at Happy’s Place, everyone is family.”
According to Variety, HAPPY’S PLACE “has received solid reviews from critics, with the first season holding a 70% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.”
“Though critics only received two episodes in advance, thus far, HAPPY’S PLACE is nostalgic, funny and heartfelt. In addition to an eclectic cast of characters and McEntire’s signature edge woven throughout the comedy, the Tennessee-set sitcom feels like a universal crowdpleaser about family, friendship and generational divisions while paying homage to past TV shows’ rhythmic beats and tone,” the outlet noted.
HAPPY’S PLACE is produced by Universal Television. Kevin Abbott writes and “executive produces with McEntire, Michael Hanel, Mindy Schultheis, Matt Berry and Pamela Fryman. Kevin Abbott and Julie Abbott created the series,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
