Saturday is the day that we welcome home Asher HaVon back to Selma after he recently won the latest season of NBC’s “The Voice.” The Selma native is back in town to be honored by the city public servants and the people of Selma, many of whom were instrumental in the voting process to get him that $100,000 recording contract. All of those loyal supporters will get a chance to see him in one of multiple ways. First, there is a meet-and-greet for him at the Foot Soldiers Building and Reflections Coffee Shoppe, which is downstairs from our office here on Water Avenue. We’re not sure if any spots are available for that meet-and-greet, but if there are, they will go fast. Lineup for the parade is on Washington Street behind City Hall at 5 p.m.. The parade will start at 6 p.m. in front of City Hall on Broad Street at the intersection of Dallas Avenue and then head toward the Edmund Pettus Bridge. While the parade won’t cross the bridge, it will turn onto Water Avenue and head toward the amphitheater, the site of the concert. The concert then kicks off at 7 p.m., and Asher will take the stage following the opening acts. We are hoping for a tremendous turnout with all of this weekend’s events. Let’s show the nation the community that Selma is.
