What: The Voice 2-part season finale

Keep reading to find out more about how HaVon secured his spot in the final + why he gives credit to his hometown.

Recapping Asher HaVon’s run to the finale

HaVon is one of two performers on Reba McEntire’s team who are still in the competition. It is McEntire’s second season as a coach after having the runner-up on her team last year.

During his blind audition, he had three chairs turn but he selected Reba to be his coach. The two have stuck together through the battle, knockout and playoff rounds with McEntire having to make some tough choices along the way. Here’s what HaVon has sang so far this season:

“Set Fire to the Rain” by Adele
“We Don’t Need Another Hero” by Tina Turner
“Un-Break My Heart” by Toni Braxton
“Titanium” by David Guetta + Sia
“I’ll Make Love to You” by Boyz II Men
“Fix You” by Coldplay
“Irreplaceable” by Beyonce

“Asher, my dad texted me this week and said, ‘Asher is the Voice.’ Now, I’m a little biased toward my team, but I will say this: No matter what other factors people are voting on, I think you’re the best vocalist in this competition. And you show that with every song, no matter what you sing. You can sing, man, just flat out.”

~ John Legend during The Voice semifinals episode

The final will be two shows across Monday and Tuesday. The finalists include:

Asher HaVon, Team Reba
Josh Sanders, Team Reba
Bryan Olesen, Team Legend
Nathan Chester, Team Legend
Karen Waldrup, Team Dan + Shay

Hometown Hero

HaVon has spoken a lot about his hometown of Selma during his time on the show. Early on, he spoke about singing at different events around town including the annual Bloody Sunday remembrance event when former President Barack Obama was in town.

“I would not be here without Selma. Selma has given me a foundation I don’t believe I would have gotten anywhere else. The people in Selma understand what it means to come from small beginnings and face the world. She’s a beautiful example on how to handle adversity gracefully, rise above it and still stand.”

Alabamians always seem to have their names in these competitions, most notably the runs from Ruben Studdard, Bo Bice + Taylor Hicks in American Idol. But there is also plenty of history on NBC’s music competition.

HaVon is the fourth person from Alabama to make it to the finale of The Voice. The three before him all finished in third place.
