10. Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

Tom Cruise stars opposite his then-wife Nicole Kidman in an erotic mystery in which he plays a doctor who infiltrates a masked orgy of a secret society after discovering his spouse has been contemplating having an affair. Director Stanley Kubrick died of a heart attack six days after showing the final cut to Warner Bros and considered it his “greatest contribution to the art of cinema”. The film had to have several sexually explicit scenes altered in post-production to secure an R-rating in the US.

9. Minority Report (2002)

Loosely based on Philip K Dick’s novella, this cyberpunk action movie set in 2054 sees Tom Cruise play the chief of a Precrime police department who apprehend criminals before they commit crimes. That is until he becomes a fugitive after being accused of a crime that he hasn’t committed. This Steven Spielberg movie was nominated for seven Oscars.

8. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2022)

The seventh and most recent Mission: Impossible adventure pits Tom Cruise’s spy Ethan Hunt against an AI enemy called The Entity. With a budget of $291 million, the film is one of the most expensive ever made and a sequel is set for release on May 23, 2025.

7. A Few Good Men (1992)

Based on Aaron Sorkin’s play of the same name, Tom Cruise leads an ensemble cast alongside Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore and Kevin Bacon in this critically acclaimed legal drama. The story follows the court-martial of two US Marines charged with the murder of another. The film was nominated for four Oscars including Best Picture.
