Suri Cruise has ‘split quietly’ from her boyfriend Toby Cohen, with the teenage sweethearts no longer in contact after a short-lived summer romance, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.

The former couple went public back in June when Toby, 18, attended prom with Suri, also 18, as her date, and in the weeks that followed the pair did not hold back from showcasing their love.

But the long-time friends called time on their romance before they ‘went to college’ in August, with insiders claiming the break-up was ‘not easy’ on Suri.

The famous teen is currently a freshman at Carnegie Mellon University, while Toby is studying at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston.

‘Suri believed she was in love and wasn’t afraid to show the world, so the breakup was not easy on her, but she has worked through this with the help of her friends,’ the insider said.

Aside from tending to a broken heart, Suri also struggled with having to mourn the friendship the pair had enjoyed before they started dating.

‘They split quietly at the end of summer,’ the source said. ‘She was good friends with him for a long time so that made it especially hard but she’s a strong young woman.’

However, the fashion student is now at peace with the break-up and knows she made the ‘right decision.’

‘When she started school and they both went away she knew she had made the right decision,’ the source continued.

‘They are currently not in communication, but she has no hard feelings towards him.’

Though the pair did not publicly announce their split, Toby appears to have channeled his heartbreak into his music, with the teen sharing covers of songs about love and loss on his TikTok account.

On August 16, the young singer performed Shawn Mendes’ song, Isn’t That Enough, which includes the lyrics: ‘My hand’s still shakin’/ my mind’s still racin’ / My heart’s still breakin’ in two.’

The source added: ‘It’s obvious when this breakup occurred because the tone of his music and his posts took a turn to heartache.’

Back in October, Toby shared a snippet of an original track he had written which alluded to missing someone.

‘Don’t say you miss mess/cuz I miss me too,’ he sang. ‘Our past ain’t history/ cause the lies were true.’

That same month he shared a snippet of another original track he had written ‘about birds,’ which touched on feelings about love and relationships.

‘I’ve been listening for the birds/ cause they call when you’re in trouble/ I’ve been trying to find the words to tell you that I love you,’ he sang.

‘I’ve been listening for birds cause I know that you’re in trouble/ and I’m waiting by the window.’

Toby, who often duets with his female friends, performed the song at the Mercury Lounge in New York City on November 27.

Addressing their split, a second insider added: ‘Yes, they split before they went off to college and she didn’t feel the need to share it with the world.

‘These are two very private people who experienced a breakup before starting their next chapters.’

They noted that Suri is now focusing on experiencing all that life has to offer and has no  plans to spend too much time mourning her failed love.

‘Suri is only 18 and she has her whole life to live,’ they said. ‘She’s really enjoying this time just being a college freshman.’

Suri appeared smitten when Toby accompanied her to her LaGuardia High School prom back in June.

The aspiring musician was very much on boyfriend duty as he took pictures of Suri and her female friends.

They were later seen kissing during a number a low key outings across the city, including in Central Park.

However, eyebrows were raised on August 5 when Suri was pictured in Brooklyn in tears during an emotional phone call.

But the young star proved she is moving on after she was seen in happier spirits when she reunited with her mom in NYC to celebrate Thanksgiving last week.

Katie helped her daughter move into her college dorm back in August, with the Dawson’s Creek alum pictured carrying a large back as Suri wheeled a suitcase.

Suri’s father Tom Cruise is financing her $65,000 a year tuition bill as part of the terms laid out in his divorce from Katie in 2012.

The divorce documents stated that Tom will pay for his daughter’s expenses, including ‘medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular costs.’

Katie and Tom got engaged just seven weeks after they first started dating in 2005.

Their Scientologist wedding was held at the Castello Orsini-Odescalchi in Bracciano in November 2006, seven months after Suri was born.

She filed for divorce in 2012 and retained primary custody of Suri, while Tom was granted visitation. It was finalized just 10 days later.

Ron Miscavige, father of Scientology leader David Miscavige, told DailyMail.com in 2016 that Katie’s misgivings about Scientology – including the effect it could have on Suri – contributed to her decision to leave Tom.

The Top Gun Maverick star reportedly paid Katie $400,000 a year until Suri turned 18.

Suri and Tom have not been photographed together in over a decade, with their last snapshot in public taken in April 2013.

She appeared to confirm their estrangement when she changed her last name from Cruise to Noelle earlier this year. Noelle is Katie’s middle name.
