Tom and Suri Cruise are estranged

Suri Cruise has turned her back on her father Tom Cruise now she’s 18 after years of no contact and an expert has suggested it was the actor who has ‘chosen not to see Suri’

Tom Cruise has “chosen not to see his daughter” over the years as his Scientology religion took precedence in his life, a source has claimed.

Suri Cruise has had a strained relationship with her father for years and it’s believed she’s even dropped her dad’s last name and is instead going by Suri Noelle. The new moniker sees Suri taking on the middle name of her mom Katie Holmes.

Amid the estrangement, a source has now claimed that for the last 11 years, “Tom has chosen not to see Suri”. They added: “It was entirely Tom’s decision not to see Suri.”

Tony Ortega, an expert on Tom’s Scientology, added: “Tom has proven over and over again that his No.1 loyalty is to [his religion] and David Miscavige.” Speaking to In Touch magazine, he said that as the years passed, it “became more and more obvious Tom had completely cut Suri out of his life.”

The expert suggested Suri is “better off” for having her father out of her life. Tony explained: “She seems like a terrific and well-adjusted young woman.”

Before Tom became estranged from his daughter, he had spoken about his desire to have kids. “My whole life I always wanted to be a father.

“I always said to myself that my children would be able to depend on me, and I would always be there for them and love them – that I’d never make a promise to my kids I couldn’t keep,” Tom told Vanity Fair in 2006.

In November 2013, Tom tried to explain the reason behind his estrangement. “Listen, when there is a divorce… things change. And it’s more complicated,” he said in a deposition when asked why he flew to London from Pittsburgh, where he was shooting Jack Reacher, to attend a church event that was “important” to him.

However. he didn’t invite his daughter, who only lives in New York. “You have to ask for permission and organize schedules to make things happen. So it’s not an ideal situation,” he said.
