A mystery figure is flanked by The Voice's Reba McEntire and John Legend.

Longtime and original coach Adam Levine returns for The Voice season 27 after a long absence, and he’ll have something to prove because of his unsuccessful track record with the reality singing competition series. The Maroon 5 frontman was one of the original The Voice coaches when the show premiered in 2011, and, in 16 seasons, he and his contestants won three times. He coached The Voice season 1 winner Javier Colon, season 5 winner Tessanne Chin, and season 9 winner Jordan Smith. Now Adam will reclaim his coaching chair on The Voice season 27.

Adam Levine will return as a coach for The Voice season 27. He’ll be joined by John Legend, Michael Bublé, and Kelsea Ballerini.

On June 5, NBC announced that Adam will return as a coach for The Voice season 27. He’ll be joined by John Legend, Michael Bublé, and Kelsea Ballerini. John was a coach in seasons 16-22, 24, and 25. He won’t be a coach in season 26, which debuts in the fall, but will return for season 27. Michael will make his debut in season 26 and stick around for season 27. Kelsea will debut as a coach in The Voice season 27, but she’s been an advisor and a guest coach on the show in the past.

Before Adam returns for The Voice season 27, season 26 will air in the fall. The coaches for The Voice season 26 will be Reba McEntire, who returns for her third season in a row. In addition, Gwen Stefani comes back to her coaching chair. She was previously a coach in seasons 7, 9, 12, 17, 19, 22, and 24. Michael makes his debut during season 26, along with first-time coach Snoop Dogg.

It’ll be intriguing to see what Adam’s coaching approach will look like during The Voice season 27, especially since his contestants only won three times in 16 seasons. He’ll be competing against Michael, who’ll be fresh off of his season 26 debut, and Kelsea, who’s never been a full-time coach before. In addition, John has only won The Voice once in season 16 with Maelyn Jarmon. Adam has a lot to prove as he takes his coaching chair after six years away from the show.

The most recent winning coach of The Voice was season 25’s Reba, whose contestant Asher HaVon took home the crown. Blake Shelton has the most wins with nine, but he also coached for the most seasons with 23. It’s going to be fun to see if newcomers Michael and Kelsea shake things up during The Voice season 27, or if Adam will emerge victorious as he returns to the show. Adam was one of the main reasons that The Voice became a hit when it debuted, so it’ll be exciting to welcome him home.
