Is Tyreek Hill Playing in Week 14?

Week 14 Status: QUESTIONABLE

Hill didn’t participate in Wednesday’s practice, but his absence is nothing to be concerned about.

Hill is still battling the wrist injury that’s been nagging him in recent weeks. Miami listed his DNP as “wrist/rest” on Wednesday. He returned to a limited practice with that same designation on Thursday.

On Friday, Hill fully practiced and was formally removed from the Dolphins’ injury report. He will play against the Jets in Week 14.

The Dolphins don’t appear to have any long-term concerns about Hill’s wrist issue. He was considered a game-time decision for Week 10 but ultimately suited up. Hill has been limited for certain practice sessions since but hasn’t missed any game action.

Hopefully, Hill’s improving health should lead to increased production. While he struggled in Tua Tagovailoa’s first three games after returning from IR in Week 8, Hill has been a top-12 fantasy receiver in two of the past three weeks.

We’ll continue to monitor the Dolphins’ injury report. You can also visit and bookmark our NFL Injury Tracker and Fantasy News Tracker for the latest updates.

Should You Start or Sit Tyreek Hill in Week 14?

Hill caught a Jonnu Smith drop in the end zone on Thanksgiving against the Packers in garbage time, giving him a touchdown in three of his past four games. It was a fortunate play, but part of putting up fantasy numbers is being in the right place to succeed, and at the very least, Hill did that in Week 13.

Over the past three weeks, Miami’s WR1 has 18 catches, and if you told me that we’d be getting six receptions per game, I’d take it to the bank. Hill doesn’t have a catch gaining more than 30 yards since the 80-yarder in Week 1 (vs. Jacksonville), a lack of big plays that feels impossible.

It could flip this week, and that potential has me continuing to play him with high expectations, even if the box scores haven’t proven that wise. The Jets have the second-highest opponent aDOT, and we saw the Dolphins’ offense use Hill as their sun last season in his lone game against them (9-102-1 on a 42.9% target share).

I’ve got Hill ranked as a low-end WR1 and could see him being a “pay up to be different” option in DFS contests.

PFN Insight on the Jets’ Defense

Since Robert Saleh’s departure, the New York Jets’ defense hasn’t been pretty. At the time of his firing, this was a top-three unit, with two top-five weeks and two others that had ranked seventh through five weeks.

They are now barely inside the top 10 overall, with just one top-10 week, two top-12 performances, and three weeks ranked outside the top 20 in the last seven games.

This is a frustrating downturn for a unit that Saleh and Jeff Ulbrich had built into a juggernaut together. They inherited a bit of a mess from the Adam Gase regime, and while the first year (2021) was equally bad, the Jets had been a top-five unit in each of the last two seasons.

This week was strange for the Jets because, for a large part of the first half, the entire team looked to be playing well. Driven by some big special-teams plays, they stifled the Seahawks. However, the final result was an average one for the defense, ranking 14th for the week.

The lack of turnovers continues to be an issue for New York (6.5%; 28th). It’s by far their worst trait, and we’ve been expecting it to regress to the mean because their other defensive metrics are largely pretty good.

They are a top-five team in pressure without blitzing (36.3; fourth) and lead the league in sack rate (9.8%). The only other slight area of concern in the run game was an area where they struggled against Seattle.

New York Jets at Miami Dolphins Trends

New York Jets

Team: The Jets might be a great college team, but this is the pro, and we play on Sundays:

QB: Remember the version of Aaron Rodgers that was in scoring position the second he stepped on the field? It’s long gone. Halloween was the last time he had a 30-yard completion.

Offense: New York picked up 56.8% of their third downs through two weeks, a rate that sits at just 34.2% since

Defense: The Jets have not intercepted a pass since Week 5 (Sam Darnold).

Fantasy: Garrett Wilson has been held at least 50% under his PPR expectation, given where his targets occurred in consecutive games (his two worst performances of the season).

Betting: The Jets have covered just two of their past eight road games in the division.

Miami Dolphins

Team: The cold weather narratives gained steam last week, so it’s worth noting that Miami’s season ends with games in Cleveland and New York.

QB: Should Miami just bank on Tua Tagovailoa from the jump? For the season, he’s completing 76.3% of first-down passes, a rate that sits at 84.8% over the past two weeks (28-of-33).

Offense: After averaging 29 points per game in Tua Tagovailoa’s first five games back from the concussion, the Dolphins managed just 17 points against the Packers on Thursday night (seven coming on a tipped pass that found Tyreek Hill with just over three minutes left in what was a 19-point game).

Defense: The Dolphins blitzed on one-quarter of Packer dropbacks last week and failed to record a single sack. They’ve called a blitz at least that often in six games this season and have failed to get home in four of those games.

Fantasy: The bottom line for Tyreek Hill fantasy managers worked last week (6-83-1), but don’t lose track of the fact that 40.4% of his production came on a tipped pass in garbage time that was meant for Jonnu Smith.
