Chris Martin’s musical protege, Victoria Canal, has shut down rumors she is dating Tom Cruise, but she told Newsweek in an exclusive statement exactly what she learns from spending time with the famous actor.

Speculation began after the pair met at Glastonbury Festival, England, in June and were spotted together at events thereafter. But according to Canal, there’s nothing true in the “insane” speculation.

Who is Victoria Canal?

Victoria Canal is a 25-year-old Spanish-American singer who shot into the spotlight earlier this year when she joined Coldplay onstage during their headline act at Glastonbury Festival to sing Paradise.

Born in Munich, Canal has lived all over the world and attended high school in Dubai.

She met Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in 2021 and a year later he declared her “Elegy” EP as “one of the best songs ever written.”

As a result of a condition called amniotic band syndrome, Canal only has one arm.

What about those dating rumors?

After they met at Glastonbury Festival, speculation about a romance between Cruise and Canal spiraled out of control.

Firstly, Cruise gave Canal a helicopter lift to the London premiere of Twisters. Then the pair attended the same Bruce Springsteen concert in London—a moment that Canal marked with an Instagram post of her alongside “the Boss” and Cruise, who she dubbed “the most random friend i’ve ever made.”

It was also then reported that the Hollywood star invited Canal to watch the filming of the new Mission Impossible film.

According to The Sun, a British newspaper, this was an unprecedented move that one source called “bizarre.”

The same insider also told The Sun: “It might have seemed unlikely that they would become anything more than friends but they are pretty much inseparable.”

How has Canal shut down the rumors?

“Guys, I am not dating Tom Cruise. This is literally insane lol,” wrote Canal underneath a Page Six Instagram post that speculated sparks might be flying between the two.

In a lengthier post on her feed, Canal debunked any hint of a romance.

“Guys, this is literally bonkers, but apparently the tabloids think I am dating Tom Cruise. I’m deceased,” she wrote. “Let’s just stop this in its tracks – I’m sorry to bum you out but I am not dating the man, albeit a lovely person & artist. Lol never thought I would have to clarify that out loud in my life.”

She managed to see the silver lining in all the furor though, commenting it was the “first time” she had been viewed as a “Spanish American singer” and not just a “one-armed pianist whose name remains unmentioned.”

“There’s always a win somewhere, thanks Tom.”

In an exclusive statement to Newsweek, Victoria expanded on her relationship with Cruise.

“In many ways, I am still in the beginnings of my career. There’s so much to learn from people who have committed to an artistic and authentic life for a long time. Tom is clearly remarkably committed to his craft, whilst maintaining respect for others and a standard of excellence from himself and those around him. I’ve gained a lot of insight by studying how he runs things on set. It informs how I want to run my own show.”

While not much is known about Canal’s romantic history, Cruise’s past loves are more well-known. His exes include Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and ex-wife Katie Holmes, with whom he shares daughter Suri Cruise.

Earlier this year, he split from Russian socialite Elsina Khayrova, after only a couple of months of dating.
