Beetlejuice 2 is on its way, about 35 years since the original film spooked its way into theaters. The highly-anticipated sequel is brought by Tim Burton once again and stars original cast members Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara. Rounding out the cast are Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux. While filming was delayed by the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, it has since been wrapped and is set to premiere on September 6, 2024.
Recently, Dafoe opened up about his character in the sequel and admitted that he had quite a good time filming. Dafoe plays a supernatural police officer, who was a B-list movie star before he died. He explained, “I haven’t seen any footage yet, but it was fun to do. I play a police officer in the afterlife, so I’m a dead person. And in life I was a B-movie action star, but I had an accident and that’s what sent me to the other side. But because of my skills, I became a detective character in the afterlife. So that’s my job. But it’s colored by the fact of who I was [when I was alive]: a B movie action star.”
Unfortunately for fans, very few other spoilers have been confirmed about the sequel. The original movie follows a young couple after they die in a car accident and find themselves stuck in their home as ghosts. Things go awry when a new family moves into their home and they seek the help of a bio-exorcist named Betelgeuse to help get rid of the family. Of course, Betelgeuse, played by Keaton, is not exactly as helpful as they hoped.
Ryder will reprise her role as Lydia, with Ortega signed on to play her daughter. Wednesday, the show also starring Ortega, creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar wrote the script for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. It sounds like it will be pretty good! What do you think?
