According to a different report by The Mirror, there was a reason why Cruise asked his stunt double to fill in for the apparently unimportant scene. When playing Ethan Hunt, the veteran actor is renowned for carrying out almost all of the labour-intensive tasks.
He contributes financially to the franchise and its production, allegedly making additional payments during COVID to support Mission and assisting in franchise-related decision-making. Filming for the last two Mission installments has been going on for years and years, so it’s a big load.

Accordingly, Christoper McQuarrie, the director of Mission: Impossible, previously told CBS News that the challenge of making a Tom Cruise movie is nearly the opposite of all other action films.

In most action film productions, the difficulty lies in constantly trying to conceal that it’s a stuntman and not the actor. On the contrary, ‘Mission: Impossible’ attempts to demonstrate that it’s Tom and not a stuntman.
