Fans are trolling Reba McEntire for a lack of awareness after she took to social media on election day.
On Tuesday, November 5 – which is also Election Day in the U.S – McEntire took to her X account (formerly known as Twitter) to celebrate a different occasion – National Redhead Day. She shared a post of her bright locks with the caption, “Long or short, either way I love being a redhead!”
Many users, already stressed by the tense atmosphere this day historically brings, felt that the 69-year-old’s timing was inappropriate. One user commented, “Reba, not right now……” while another agreed, “love it god mother we’ll talk about it tomorrow.” A third asked for a little awareness from the country singer, writing, “Read the room Reba.”
Others wondered if the post was a hint at McEntire’s political preference. One user replied, “RED being the key to this post,” while another said, “You got that right, red, red right down the ballot!” At this time, the “Fancy” singer has not endorsed a presidential candidate, something Saturday Night Live actually did a sketch on this past week.
The skit on SNL‘s November 3 episode featured a humorous and exaggerated portrayal of the former sitcom star. During the show, cast member Heidi Gardner, who played McEntire, made light of the country star’s indecision about whom to support in the election.
Gardner quipped, “Well, see, I come from a little town called McAlester, Oklahoma, and we don’t make up our minds quickly,” before sharing a local saying: “If you think the milk is spoiled, give it another sip,” poking fun at the indecisiveness around the election. She also joked about the absurdity of two candidates sharing the presidency, saying, “Why can’t they both be president, like our milk in McAlester? Creamy and crunchy.”
McEntire has yet to comment on the backlash from fans on her photo.
