Robert Downey Jr’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has opened so many gates. All of a sudden, everything seems possible for fans. They feel as though their voices are finally being heard, and the franchise has actually begun to respect their opinions on their films again. With the addition of the multiverse into the equation, they are coming up with some of the most wild possibilities that could be implemented into the franchise itself.

Recently, a fan voiced a similar possibility for the franchise to use. While it may sound bizarre at first, it could be a very big hit for the MCU. Not only could it be extremely profitable, but it would also make their audiences very happy.

Everyone assumed that his chapter in the MCU was closed and tried to move on with their lives with an Iron Man-shaped hole in their hearts. However, when the franchise turned everything on its head and announced that the savior of the first phases of the franchise would be the big-bad for the next phase, all of a sudden anything could happen.

Recently, Blurayangel on X made a post where they hypothesized the possibility of Downey’s new character going head-to-head against another addition to the MCU. They put forth the idea of Downey’s Doom being forced to face a new variant of Tony Stark; this time played by Tom Cruise.

A Profitable Venture

Around the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there were a lot of rumors that suggested that Tom Cruise would be playing a variant of Tony Stark. Over the years, the actor’s name has been brought up time and time again with the character after it was revealed that he was in the running for the role.

I love Tom Cruise, and I said to Kevin Feige at one point, I was like, Could we get Tom Cruise’s Iron Man? I remember reading about that in Ain’t It Cool News back in the day, that Tom Cruise was going to be Iron Man.

Well, I mean, he was shooting Mission Impossible 7 and 8. I don’t believe so. I just don’t think it was ever an option, because of availability.

Using this opportunity, fans listened to the rumors that were floating at the time and went to watch the 2022 film with their expectations high, only to be disappointed. During an interview with Rolling Stone, the writer of the film, Michael Waldron, revealed that the possibility of adding the actor to the movie was considered. However, scheduling conflicts made Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige hesitant about even approaching him.

Now, however, circumstances have changed a lot, and the franchise has a lot of time to discuss and plan something with the actor. Although the addition of Cruise to the MCU would be very exciting for fans, it is difficult to imagine just how profitable it will be for the franchise. It is safe to assume that with so much already going on, he will only add to the series.
