From four-chair turns to Kelsea Ballerini making history with her usage of the “Coach Replay,” season 27 of “The Voice” is off to a strong start.

11 contestants auditioned blind during the Monday, Feb. 3, premiere. Season 27 coaches Adam Levine, John Legend, Michael Bublé, and Ballerini each recruited contestants on to their respective teams, proving that the competition will be fierce this season.

Two performers had their season 27 dreams dashed when none of the coaches turned around during their blind auditions, while two other performers received a coveted four-chair turn.

Here’s everything you need to know about “The Voice” season 27 premiere:

Were there four-chair turns during ‘The Voice’ season 27 premiere?

Two contestants wowed all four coaches during the premiere episode. Grace Miller Moody received a four-chair turn after covering “Sunday Morning” by Levine’s band, Maroon 5.

“Adam notoriously doesn’t turn for his own songs. You have broken the code,” Ballerini said.

Moody could’ve picked any of the season 27 coaches, but given her song choice, it seemed likely that she would choose Levine. The Maroon 5 frontman sealed the deal by going onstage and shaking hands with all of Moody’s family members.

Despite Ballerini pressing a button that played snippets of former “The Voice” coach Blake Shelton insulting Levine, Moody ultimately decided to join Team Adam.

The second four-chair turn of the episode came during Ethan Eckenroad’s performance of “Northern Attitude” by Noah Kahan.

“Ethan, I have been waiting for you, my friend,” Levine said. “You have my favorite voice I’ve heard so far, this entire blind audition.”

Ballerini noted that Eckenroad’s performance marked the first time she felt like she was turning around for an artist instead of just a singer. She tried to sway Eckenroad by pointing out that she knows Kahan and released a song with him called “Cowboys Cry Too,” but Eckenroad became the second four-chair turn recipient to join Team Adam.

Kelsea Ballerini used her ‘Coach Replay’

The “Coach Replay” allows coaches to change their minds and recruit a contestant despite not turning around during their blind audition. They only get one per season, and Ballerini used hers during the season 27 premiere.

“I made a mistake. I think you are fantastic,” she told Dan Kiernan after admitting that she wasn’t sure why she didn’t hit her buzzer during his performance of Panic! At the Disco’s “High Hopes.”

John Legend, who did turn around for Kiernan, pointed out that the “Replay” is typically used when a contestant receives zero chair turns.

“It’s never been used in this way. Kelsea is the first coach to use the ‘Coach Replay’ to try to steal. It’s … very dirty and underhanded,” he joked.

Kiernan chose to join Team Kelsea and joked that he forgives her for not turning around initially.

John Legend used his block

After hearing Renzo’s rendition of “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Legend knew he had to have him on his team. He felt so strongly that he used his block to prevent Levine from recruiting him. Bublé also turned around, but Renzo chose to join Team Legend.

Two contestants didn’t make it past the blind auditions

Despite their strong performances, both Zack Zaro and Lilli Doll didn’t advance past the blind auditions. Levine told Zaro that the “passion was there” but there were some “technical” issues, while Ballerini said that Doll “just needs some more time to really develop her voice and then come back.”

A formerly rejected contestant made a comeback

Iris Herrera came back to audition after receiving zero chair turns during season 26. This time around, she impressed the coaches with her take on “You Are My Sunshine,” prompting everyone except Levine to turn around.

Ballerini, who successfully recruited Herrera onto her team, was impressed by her ability to take feedback and return stronger than ever.

“That’s what it takes to be in music,” Ballerini said.

A former finalist’s daughter auditioned

Bryan Oleson, who placed third on season 25 of “The Voice,” made an appearance during the season 27 premiere to cheer on his daughter Jadyn Cree. Jadyn made Ballerini and Bublé turn around with her performance of “Still Into You” by Paramore and decided to join Team Bublé.

“To be on this side of it and watch Jadyn blossom, it’s surreal,” Oleson told cameras.

Kelsea Ballerini sang with a contestant

Angie Rey impressed Ballerini by singing one of her songs, “Penthouse.”

“You’re hitting notes that I don’t hit in that song,” Ballerini said before noting that she could “tell” Angie writes her own music by the way she sang “certain phrases.”

Bublé then pointed out that the two women should sing the song together, and Ballerini hopped up onstage for an impromptu duet. Angie harmonized with Ballerini before becoming an official member of Team Kelsea.
