The Voice viewers were left in tears as a contestant revealed she is ‘allergic to gravity’. Kyra, 20, from Machester, stunned the judges with her peformance of The Beatles song Golden Slumbers on the new series of the ITV show.
But fans of the show were left sobbing as she revealed she had been diagnosed with a chronic illness. Using a wheelchair on stage, she told the coaches: “I’ve been in this chair for just over a year now.
“I’ve got a condition called PoTS syndrome. Basically I’m allergic to gravity so if I stand up my heart rate shoots up.” In a VT played to the audience she added: “A couple of years ago my life kind of flipped on its head.
“All of a sudden my health rapidly declined. I was bedbound for months and then I was diagnosed with a chronic illness called PoTS syndrome.
“I’d like to show people even if you’ve got limitations it doesn’t have to stop you from doing something like this. I’m definitely excited for the challenge but it is terrifying.”
The NHS says Postural tachycardia syndrome (PoTS) is when your heart rate increases very quickly after getting up from sitting or lying down.
Krya made it through to the next stage of the show, choosing new coaches Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher as her mentors. Viewers were in tears as they praised Kyra for raising awareness of the condition.
kafyk wrote on Instagram: “Thankyou for telling people about POTs. My son’s life changed overnight whilst on holiday last year. Hes housbound and very depressed having once been a very fit personal trainer. I hope your story can inspire him and ithers who have this chronic condition,”
sophieakhtarx commented: “This made me cry as I also have POTS! thank you for raising awareness & she was incredible!”
carararamia added: “In tears, please can someone tell me the song she sang? That was absolutely stunning!”
