The Rock’s recent appearance in WWE leading up to WrestleMania 40 generated substantial buzz and excitement. There was widespread anticipation that he might face off against Roman Reigns at the Show of Shows. However, this didn’t materialize, and it seems The Rock was bothered by claims suggesting he was attempting to “save” WrestleMania 40.
After making his return to WWE, The Great One intervened in Cody Rhodes’ feud with Roman Reigns, reportedly with the intention to elevate the WrestleMania 40 card with a match against Reigns.
Despite these plans, WrestleMania 40 unfolded differently, with Cody Rhodes ultimately defeating Roman Reigns to claim the Undisputed WWE Championship.
During a recent conversation with the Busted Open podcast, Brian Gewirtz dismissed rumors suggesting that The Rock was ever planning to headline WrestleMania. He stated that the star was not bothered by fans booing his Final Boss character. However, he disagreed with the narrative that The Rock was trying to “save” WrestleMania or to main event against Roman Reigns and added that The Rock was bothered by that narrative.
“After Royal Rumble, there was this narrative that Rock has vowed he’s going to ‘save WrestleMania.’ Those words never escaped his mouth.” Gewirtz continued, “He loves the business. Fans are gonna react to what they see, what they infer. Sometimes they’re right, sometimes they’re not. But I don’t think the idea of people booing him bothered him as much as the narrative of, like, yeah, he got on the board (of TKO) and he just decided he’s going to main event WrestleMania, when it was obviously well thought out well before then.”
Ringside News has also exclusively reported additional details about The Rock’s plans to win the WWE Undisputed Championship before handing it back to Roman Reigns. Regardless, many fans are happy with how things turned out in the end and that’s truly all that matters.
