Reba’s New Series Might Get a Crossover With Hit Singing Competiton
By Movieguide® Contributor
As a legendary country singer, host on THE VOICE and lead actress in her new series, HAPPY’S PLACE, Reba McEntire’s got her hands full.
But her schedule’s not too busy to pencil in the other voice judges, Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg and Gwen Stefani, to get a little screen time on the new show.
“Snoop wants to be on the show. Michael Bublé wants to be on the show. Gwen will just come visit, she didn’t say she wanted to be on the show,” McEntire said.
“She’ll want to,” said Melissa Peterman, who plays McEntire’s best friend Gabby in HAPPY’S PLACE. “When she comes and hangs out, she’ll want to,” adding, “Maybe Gwen could play my sister! I said that because I want everyone to think that we look a lot alike. She’s just awesome.”
McEntire is busy balancing her time between the two shows, but she has it a lot easier than she used to.
“Some days [the shoots] are overlapping,” the 69-year-old told TV Insider. “But it’s so much better than two years ago when I was doing Big Sky in Albuquerque for ABC, and then flying to the East Coast for concerts on the weekend. This is a piece of cake.”
Especially since the sets are in close proximity.
“You just have to walk across the alley,” Peterman said. “The two stages are next to each other.”
Movieguide® reported on HAPPY’S PLACE in May:“We have been working on trying to get another show since we were canceled on the REBA show,” McEntire recently told ET. “We got to do MALIBU COUNTRY for one season. We’ve got the same producers, same showrunner, same writers, and now we’re back with Melissa Peterman and Rex Linn, my boyfriend, and a wonderful, wonderful cast and crew.”
She told PEOPLE that she will sing the theme song for the new show.
“We’ve started working on it, and we’ll have it soon finished,” McEntire said. “If they say it’s a go, I’ll finish it up and have it ready for when we go to series.”
In the new sitcom, McEntire plays Bobbie, who inherits a restaurant from her dad. She soon finds out she has a much younger half-sister, who is played by Belissa Escobedo, and the two run the business together.
Taste of Country said, “In real life, McEntire is 69 to Escobedo’s 25, so expect plenty of generational gap humor.”
Last week, McEntire shared some photos of the cast on Instagram. She said, “Already having #toomuchfun with my #HappysPlace family! Who else can’t wait for this fall?”
The show will premiere on NBC Oct. 18.
