Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson looks totally unrecognisable with hair
Believe it or not, that is indeed Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
It appears the 52-year-old actor isn’t quite as recognisable as we thought he was – all he needs is a mop of black hair and he could probably take a stroll around central London entirely unnoticed.
Usually the pro wrestler sports his rock-like, muscular physique and bald head, but with neither on show we hardly knew it was Dwayne behind those luscious curls.
Rather than a personal image overhaul, Dwayne’s surprising new look is actually a costume for his new movie The Smashing Machine, which he is filming in Vancouver, Canada.
He also wore golden aviator sunglasses, and is even reportedly sporting a prosthetic nose for the part.
In the flick – also starring Emily Blunt – the Rock plays MMA legend Mark Kerr, who shot to fame in the 1990s.
He was in character for a new film called The Smashing Machine – phew!
We are so used to seeing Dwayne like this
The Smashing Machine is also the title of a 2002 documentary, which tells the story of Kerr’s professional and personal life.
Benny Safdie’s dramatisation of Kerr’s life is set to be released next year, and will delve into his struggles with addiction and his marriage to wife Dawn Staples (Blunt) as he rose to fame and MMA glory.
Discussing the film – and director Benny, whose titles include Uncut Gems and Good Time, while he also starred in Oppenheimer – Dwayne previously told Variety why he was drawn to the role.
‘Benny wants to create, and continues to push the envelope when it comes to stories that are raw and real, characters that are authentic and at times uncomfortable and arresting,’ he explained.
‘I’m at a point in my career where I want to push myself in ways that I’ve not pushed myself in the past.’
The star is also reportedly wearing a prosthetic nose for the part
Kerr, now 55, has helped Dwayne get into the role, as the sportsman joined the actor this week at an MMA training camp where he’s been ‘a total student of the game, absorbing and learning as much as I can, day by day.’
‘[Kerr] is still a f***ing machine, that can close the distance with scary speed and power,’ the Fast X star wrote in a post for his 559.8M Instagram followers alongside a snap of the pair hard at work together.
‘I’ll forever be grateful to the core for his invaluable knowledge he’s been gracious enough to pass onto me and especially for the brotherhood we share.
‘Locking up with Mark, and feeling his press and power – it’s no surprise he was an NCAA, UFC & VALE TUDO Heavyweight Champion.
‘That’s the A side to success. The B side tells a whole other story. Thank you everyone for all your incredible support thru this intense process and journey. Production begins filming this week.’
