The LA Lakers superstar LeBron James was selected as the captain of the West squad for the upcoming All-Star Game.
Superstar LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers will lead the Western Conference squad in his historic 20th NBA All-Star Game participation. However, some supporters felt he wasn’t worthy of the captaincy this season and took to social media to mock him for it.
“The King” was selected as the West’s captain after winning the conference’s All-Star voting with around 5.1 million votes, about 500,000 more than Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, the defending champions, who came in second.
LeBron James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (19) with the most selections in NBA history by choosing to play in another All-Star game.
Even though James created history, some people believed he wasn’t worthy of the title of All-Star West captain because the Lakers are now having a difficult season, among other factors. They expressed their feelings on X, the former Twitter:

@COSportsNut wrote: So disrespectful to the TRUE best player in the West. Jokić should be the captain but the All Star Game is nothing more than a popularity contest tbh.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James lead the All-Star vote.
In this year’s All-Star Game, LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo will lead the West and East teams, respectively. Following the final tally, which was made public on Thursday, the two were selected as captains after winning the most votes in their respective conferences.
With 5.1 million votes, James—who will play in the Midseason Classic for the record 20th time—led the West, while eight-time All-Star Antetokounmpo garnered 5.4 million votes in the East.
The players themselves cast 25% of the votes, while a panel of journalists and broadcasters covering the NBA cast the remaining 25% of the votes to choose the All-Star starters. Fan voting accounted for 50% of the total vote.
In the Western Conference, Kevin Durant (Phoenix), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC), Nikola Jokic (Denver), and Luka Doncic (Dallas) were also voted starters. Joel Embiid (Philadelphia), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana), Jayson Tatum (Boston), and Damian Lillard (Milwaukee) were all located in the East.
The West against. East format of the 2024 All-Star Game will return, with the game taking place in Indiana. During the previous six ASG tournaments, the top vote-getters from each conference were captains and had the authority to choose their own teams. LeBron James was a captain three times, Antetokounmpo three times, Durant twice, and Stephen Curry once.
