Reba McEntire turned her chair at the last second for a singer on The Voice, only to discover that the contestant wasn’t the person any of the coaches expected.
Kevin James Graham, 33, from Boston, Massachusetts, delivered a rendition of “Stay With Me,” released by Faces in the early 1970s. The coaches — McEntire, Gwen Stefani, Michael Bublé and Snoop Dogg — listened intently and exchanged glances at one another, speculating how old the singer might be. Stefani applauded Graham’s performance and “unique” vocals, and Bublé wondered, “is that a minor? Either that is a female or a young dude.” Snoop said he was “mad” that he didn’t turn his chair for Graham. “You fooled me, man! …And then Reba went and did it.”
“Kevin, I swear, I thought you was a female with your high voice,” McEntire admitted. “And I thought, ‘well, I do need another girl singer,’ as I call myself a girl singer. I turn around, (and) there you stand. But man, you totally sang your butt off. That was great. Welcome to Team Reba.
“Kevin was just wailing, man, just doing so good. …I’m so glad I got him,” McEntire said. Watch Graham’s blind audition here:
